The reason they aren't going to show us what could've been is that they are giving it to us in N:TW. They themselves recognized the massive amount of bugs in the game and went "Hmmm... Instead of fix those which will take time and lose us money. Lets release a new game where all of that is fixed!"

Call me cynical, but I'll believe that when I see it. In my book New Game = New Bugs, but time will tell.

ntw uses a new engine not warscape that etw uses so rest assured it will be buggy.

A new engine? Why?

One interesting thing is happening. When the game in unsuccesful, you don´t see very vibrant activity in the forums. I remember the gold days of Company of Heroes, when it the major forums there were dozens of new posts every day. On ETW forums, however...

I only enter the forums to look at the Discussion pages. I´ve moved on back to Europa Universalis III, which despite having its combats shown on a silly box with graphics from the nineties and a bunch of numbers, feels infinetedly more immersive than ETW, as well as having much higher replayability.
I don´t know... I loved Rome Total war, I don´t know why my feelings with ETW are so bland compared to those I got with RTW...

ordinarily you'd expect bugs with a creative assembly release. however NTW is definately a paid for patch which should fix bugs. should be interesting heh. whatever happens, i have no faith in CA or the franchise.

I played when it was released but quit due to the amount of bugs/crashes that inhibited me from successfully completing a campaign. Since reinstalling and playing 1.5, I've had NO CTDS or BSOD thus far. I'm at the year ~1747 and the game is running amazing.

The CAI and BAI have both improved significantly imo. In my game, I'm playing as the Swedes and Have Prussia as an ally. On several occassions they've sent an Army to my newly obtained Lithuania city to help me fight off Poland and Russia (who are in an alliance). It seems that alliances are working much much better. Two different armies attack me in unison -- I never experienced this in 1.3.

Also, in my Conquest of India, Maratha and Mysore are in an alliance. After several turns of fighting waves and waves of armies that attacked me once I landed my army there, I finally sacked Marathas capital. Once I took their capital, the amount of unrest was insane -- something like -18 -32. In the proceeding turns, I was very surprised at how well the CAI strategized and planned to take back the capital. Basically Maratha, Mysore, and the Marathan Rebels all worked in concert to take it back. After 2 turns ended, there was a rebellion due the the unrest -- at the same time Mysore brought a full stack and a half stack up to my base, and maratha brought a full stack. Before this, the raided all the buildings in the region to prevent me from building new ones (a new church school to convert to Protestantism and a Bawdyhouse for lower class happiness). It was a crazy fight, in the end I lost a VERY close battle. My army was still very hurt from the original takeover of the city and I had only ~700 men to their ~2700. I probably would have won, but they mortared me to death. They did a real nice job of defending their artillery, mortars from my flank attacks by my calvary. It was a pretty epic battle, took the full hour.

Also, the CAI seems to understand the importance of distrupting my economy. My trade routes are raided every turn, ports blockaded, Industrial/agricultural building are often pillaged... it's a challenge now.
All in all, I see major improvements in the CAI/BAI. The game is much more fun to play when you are actually facing a respectable opponent. There are improvements that I would like to see be made, some minor ones in diplomacy and siege battles, but all in all it's good.

Just keep your fingers crossed and hope it doesn't ruin your campaign.

I was forced to abandon my last campaign about a month ago due to the game hanging on the Ottomans turn. I tried reloading from an earlier save, I tried declaring war on the Ottoman empire, I tried waiting "Hours" hoping it would finish, and clear the logjam or whatever the issue is. Nothing helped.

Every time a new patch would come out I started a new United States campaign.

I don't want to start a new campaign, and invest all that time just to have some BS issue derail it.

So, I shelved ETW. I wont be buying any more of CA's crap ether.

Do a search on my previous posts. I started of a major Total War supporter. Such a damn shame!
All I have is ill regard for CA. I only check in here now looking for a fix, so I might get some use out of ETW again.
