    Default Course Overview: Character Texturing

The goal of this course is to teach the student how to texture using a number of different methods, as well as help the student achieve a high level proficiency in Photoshop. Models will be provided by the instructor, and students will choose a model (or use one of their own that the instructor approves) to texture.

Required software for this class is Photoshop, and a 3d modeling package of your choice. Assistance is available for 3dsmax and Maya, but the class syllabus is compatible with any 3d software. No experience is necessary. Previous texturing experience and fine art/drawing skills are a plus.

This tutorial goes over how to take two distinct photos, and blend them together into one texture:

This tutorial goes over how to take the seamless texture you created from Lesson 2, and add dirt and age to it to make it look like a better texture. This uses skills you have learned already and introduces the Brush System:

This tutorial goes over taking the Diffuse texture from Lesson 3, and turning it into Normal and Specular maps. This does not teach many new artistic skills but there is important required reading so you know what you are doing.

Well in order to aid my own tutorial creation and for reference, I'll post what each tutorial and class will cover... as soon as I get 1, 2a, and 2b recorded (hopefully this weekend) registration will begin.

    Introduction
I'm going to start with a couple similar photos that we would be using for a photosource, and editing them so they match up better. The actual task of editing the photos will cover Tutorials 2a and 2b, this is more a cursory introduction. This doesn't cover the actual tools, which will be explained in the other tutorials. The first will likely be one of the longest and densest tutorials... there will also be an emphasis on hotkeys and shortcuts.
    The Image Menu:
    1. What are Modes?
    2. Levels and the Histogram
    3. Curves
    4. Colour Balance
    5. Hue/Saturation
    6. Channel Mixer
    7. Gradient Map
    8. Image Size, Canvas Size, Cropping

    Blending modes
    Layer Styles
    1. Drop Shadow
    2. Inner Shadow
    3. Inner and Outer Glow
    4. Bevel and Emboss
    5. Stroke
    6. Overlays

    Paths
    Layer Masks
