    Default Solution for battle CTD

    Hello;

    Nikron has reported a way he managed to work around the ROP battle CTD, which has been reported by many people, and occurs just before the game should switch from loading screen to battle screen. The way he got around it is by letting the game use "auto-detect best-performance settings" in the Video Settings tab (accessible from Main Menu).
    Also, turning on unit shaders is reported to help solve the issue.

    After some thought about this on my side, I presume that this is caused by an incapable version of the preferences.txt, which we have bundled with ROP Beta 2. So you could also try to delete the preferences.txt file from the [installation folder]\preferences folder.

    When you have enabled the Advanced Options checkbox , there will be a button at the bottom right of the screen, saying "AUTO-DETECT BEST PERFORMANCE SETTINGS" when you point your mouse on it. That button might help.
    Or, turn ON Unit Shaders.

    One more data point: I always had the battle CTD thing, across a couple of versions of ROP. I enabled unit shaders as suggested, and it works fine now.

    Well, I am Parsa, its the year 520 BC and I have just taken Sabata. Now when I click on the next turn button I get a CTD--everytime Now my Parsa campaign is stuck. Now what? I have experienced many battle CTDs (your suggested fix did not work, but restarting the autosaved turn did. I sure wish i could finish this fun camapign.
    I am now playing Babylon (why aren't they named the Chaldaens?) and so far so good. I think the problems lie with Saba. Perhaps there are units with problems and events in Sabaen settlements causing these CTDs. I had noticed similar problems with other mods.
    Please keep tweaking this extremely fun mod! I am willing to do some playtesting for any future builds.

    My CTD problems must be related with the SABA faction. I am well into my Bab-Ilu campaign with ZERO CTDs. Saba has just declared war on me and I am awaiting my first battle. I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. So far--fun!

    We had a unit model in RS that was causing CTD's. Turning ON 'shaders' solved the problem. But it has since been removed. It was a Webbird Greek Swordsman model. My guess is you have a 'buggy' model in there, 'cause they should work fine with shaders on or off.

    i know this thread is dead but i have a battle CTD problem. it doesnt occur when the loading changes to the battle but it happens about 4 seconds into the speech OR as soon as i click 'start eployment'. Would this be fixed by turning shaders on?

    Oh it's in the stickies part so no prob. It might help if you put on unit shaders in this case, but I'm not sure. Do you have patch 2.11 installed? That might fix some issues as well (depending on which faction you were playing with and against).

    yeh, i did install the patch but that didnt help (though in impatience i started an autoresolve campaign then got a CTD which hasnt happened since). It was just a custom game with persia against bab ilu. i was just experimenting with units. I'll try unit shaders, then report back

    in 40 battles without crash in the 41 battle i had a crash
