Default Curious about "Consular" and "Imperial" Legions...

I was just wondering how the combat values of the numbered Roman legions were decided?
I had been playing a normal campaign as Rome, but reading the forums lately, it's sounding like patch 10 will be coming soonish. So, having never experienced Marian reforms in any mod I've played, and knowing I'll never finish in time, I triggered them early using cheats...just to horse around with the numbered legions before the patch.
What I noticed is that the western legions don't seem as tough as the eastern ones overall. I can currently recruit only from Mediolanium/Patavium/Athens/Byzantium...about 12 legions total. Also, I can see the legions from Lugdunium (sp?) in Gaul aor but can't recruit em.
I really dig the numbered legions and the fact that they have different values gives them some serious flavor, and the mini histories are cool too. Was just wondering how the combat values were chosen, whether from some historical record, or just best guess, or personal choice.
And for my shameless sucking up...great mod!...you guys are kicking ass and taking names...can't wait for 10, though it's sounding scary...hehe...I may have to go to M/M

haha yeh well historically, the eastern legionaries would be more experienced as they continuously fight enemies etc but im not sure if thats a bug your experiencing, if it is its been fixed in patch 10, the entire stats system has been rewritten so you should start playing easy/easy lol

If they were a level for ve/ve than I hope you choose it because itll be alot tougher in patch 10. I guarantee it. Very easy!

By and large, the stats have been leveled out for the Legions so they are alike, with the exception of the 'Assaulter Legions'...which will chew up Spartans and pick their remains out of their teeth with their captured spears!!

Only the costs will vary somewhat, based on greater distance from Rome.

i thought the scale armour legions had SLIGHTLY less defence, and the chainmail ones too? (though some scale legions are "Assault Legions", given that they have the arm guard, so they ought to also own.) I just have some issue with the eastern legions not being able to perform the testudo - against the parthians, surely it would have been an invaluable tactic?

That is not the case anymore...shouldn't be, anyway.

Chew up Spartans??? why dvk?why???...do you keep trying to scare me by saying these things???why?!?! first it was the slave armies and now its Spartan chewing legions!!!

I might just have to wipe Rome out earlier or something...Spartan chewing legions vs the armies of Syracuse?...not liking the sound of my chances....

Been playing hard/hard...but all this talk of naughty rebels is making me think I'll start next campaign at medium/medium when patch comes out.

    @Pseudocaesar
Don't think it's a bug...here's an example of what I'm talking about...from the unit card, a few stats...

Western Legion : Legio V Alaudae...raised in Patavium
    Experience 2
    Melee/Missile Attack 19
    Total Defense 40
    Armour 15
description says Testudo formation, but abilities do not...
and can't form one on the battlefield, ability is greyed out.

Eastern Legion : Legio IV Scythica...raised in Byzantium
    Experience 1
Melee Attack 20 (no missile attack listed)
    Total Defence 48
    Armour 20
description and abilities say Testudo, and can form it on
    battlefield.

That's the type of thing I was curious about.

Anyways, wish me luck, gonna take the 7 Legions from Athens/Byzantium and launch a assault on the 13 full stacks of seluicids(sp?) in and around Sardis and Pergamum. Pergamum had been advancing nicely into eastern Asia Minor...then they ran into the Seluicid train ...lol, they only have their capital left. I guess I'll see how tough the Legions are against Silver Shields and Cataphracts and Onagers...because every seluicid stack has some

Nothing in that about eye protection so a poke in the eye with a pointy spear will still work!

    Awesome.

Super Bowl XLII: New England Patriots (18-0) vs. New York Giants (12-6)
...and another ones gone, and another ones gone...

what about secondary weapon: machinegun (missile attack 100) (effective against armour, missiles can impale more than one man, very long range missiles)
