This will be the round by round fight thread for fight of the year Mayweather vs De La Hoya.
I had predicted Mayweather to win but i forgot to take into account that this fight is at 154 Junior middleweight and Mayweather is even a relatively small welterweight.
He faces in De La hoya a man who is naturally bigger and heavier.De La Hoya also has more experience and has faced the better opponents.Mayweather is still the favorite as he is the younger man and technically perfect.

This fight is a close one to call.I slightly favour De La Hoya.
I am only listening to the fight on the radio so my report my not be a great reflection on the fight.If anyone is watching it then also feel free to join in.

Mayweather comes out fast and is aggressive,De La Hoya Is submissive.Mayweather very fast using all angles.De La Hoya pounds away,Mayweather cover ups well.Both jabbing,De La Hoya eye is already swelling.
De La Hoya defence is leaky and has trouble keeping up with Mayweather.De La Hoya is not being hurt but being hit cleanly.
Mayweather wins.

De La hoya comes out and opens up with a powerful left hook,mayweather takes it well,Mayweather on the ropes.De La Hoya hits mayweather covers up.
De La Hoya hits a hard left hook.Best punch of the fight.Another great right hand by Hoya.
Mayweather moving around using jab,back to the ropes.
mayweather hitting with light jabs,Hoya very calm,hitting with good body shots,mayweather hits with good uppercut.
Elbows and heads being used.
De La Hoya wins.

Very good right from Mayweather.Mayweather forced back.Hoya wailing on Mayweather who's on the ropes.
Hoya,hitting mayweather with hard punches.Mayweather seems reluctant to fight in close range.
Mayweather gets in good straight rights,teeing of on Hoya,still not hurting Hoya.
Mayweather uses terrific footwork.
Good even round.

Stiff jab from De LA Hoya.Hoya,charges forward hits Mayweather with good body punches.Mayweather uses more good straight rights.Good left hook from De La Hoya.
Hoya is getting through with good punches.Two good jabs get in for Mayweather.Hoya punds away at the side of mayweather but few are getting through.
Mayweather cornered,uses blistering speed to get out.Mayweather now using blistering speed to hit Hoya.
Mayweather wins but is still close.

Hmm dunno I'd put round 3 for Oscar and round 4 10-10 tie. Oscar is definately controlling the fight though Mayweather was more aggressive in round 4.

Big right hand from Mayweather,rocks De La Hoya.
Mayweather is very aggressive at beginning.Mayweather jabbing well,hoya doing little.
Hoya is rocked by very hard right.Staggers back into corner.De La Hoya now hits Mayweather with hard hooks,Hoya hurt again though.
Hoya marches forward,Hoya takes it but looks tired.
Mayweather boxing beautifully.Best round so far.

Mayweather throws great uppercut.Hoya works away on Mayweathers body.
Mayweather tries to regain control.
Hoya not so keen to rush in against Mayweather.
Mayweather controlling the fight.In a different class.

Hoya,wails away,few land.Mayweathers defence too good.Mayweather sticking and moving using good jabs.
De La hoya takes a few punches, takes them all well.Hoya gives good jabs back.Hoya opens up against Mayweather on the ropes,again few punches get through.

Quiet start of the round.
Hoya is getting through,forces Mayweather back to Hoya's corner.
Mayweathers gets hit good,mayweather takes it well,good chin.
Mayweather hitting Hoya with good shots.Mayweather controls latter part of fight.Good ending flurry by Hoya.

The vast volume of punches come from Mayweather.Hoya seems to be tiring,slowing down,just plodding forward.Mayweather so fast.
Hoya getting hit with good clean punches,Mayweather goes to body and is boxing amazingly.
Mayweather seemingly hitting at will.Hoya's punches are weak.
Mayweather too good.Mayweathers round.

Mayweather comes out confident and aggressive.Mayweather using lighting fast jabs.Hoya has little answers,Mayweather hitting with everything he throws.Hoya has little succes in this round.Hoya very tired.Mayweather dominating.

Hoya caught with amazing body punch.Hoya drops his arm.Mayweather takes complete control,mayweather again hitting at will.Hoya being made to look ordinary.Hoya only fighting on instinct.Hoya leaning in at Mayweather,just plodding forward.All Mayweather.Hoya can't find the energy can't find the speed of Mayweather.
Mayweather takes a big right hand at the end.Hoya may have a big last round salvo.
Mayweather still wins easily.

Hoya storms in,Mayweather swiftly moves away.Mayweather going forward applying pressure.Mayweather hits with good counter punching.Crowd try to lift Hoya.Mayweather starts to come back,flicking fast jabs.
Mayweather tees of on Hoya.Hoya works away at the body of Mayweather,Mayweather smiles.Hoya throws everything at PBF with everything he has.
Nice flurry at the end.

Fight Conclusion
Mayweather too good,too fast.
Hoya was chasing shadows all night,Mayweather produced a master class.Mayweather has won the fight imo.
Hoya just didn't bring enough.

The moral of the story is, Oscar is pretty good, but now he's old as hell and can't fight like he used to. If he was 5 years younger it would have been a different match.

Yeah no kidding I watched the fight and only way this fight could have ended was Mayweather winning or a draw so 2nd judge was seriously high. Oscar was impressive early on commanding the fight and I actually thought he did much better then I would have expected, the fight WAS closer then I thought it would be but like you said just not enough.

Fight Re-evaluation:
Ok,i never saw the fight and only listened to it through the wireless.After viewing the fight (courtesy of youtube) i can say that what the BBC 5Live commentators were saying was grade A ********!
They made it sound like mayweather dominated the fight and brutally beat De La Hoya and gave the most preposterous scorecards in favour of mayweather.
The fight was VERY CLOSE.Many ring side commentators had it a draw or only a very minor edge to PBF.
PBF ran all night throwing only 1 punch at a time the majority of the time and forcing Hoya to press the fight.
To win a new championship belt you must beat the champion decisevely and PBF did anything but.
Very boring fight.
