GREAT NEWS! The TW Realism Mod v2.0 is Released! To download it, click here.

This is an incredible mod that will make RTW a lot more realistic and accurate to history. Here are some changes and unit additions that you will find in this mod:

    New Units in Mod:

    -Gallic Heavy Infantry
    -Gallic Mercenary Cavalry
    -Veneti Vagaudam
    -Carthaginian Archers
    -German Lancemen
    -Ptolemaic Elephants
    -Senone Slingers
    -Leuce Epos
    -Gallic Infantry
    -Nubian Mercenaries
    -Funtidores

    New Changes for 2.0:

    - Added Rome: Total Realism version splash screen.

    - The manner of a kill rate reduction has been changed. Swing rates have been to 0.75 of what theyw ere, so a -25 reduction, and there has been a +3 morale bonus given universally to all troops. This will, hopefully, stop the insta-routs that are known to happen quite often.

    - Many Barbarian faction units have been reskinned. Including Longshield Warbands, Barbarian Cavalry, Sword Warbands, Sarmatian Horse Archers, etc. A few skins were created by outside sources (such as thebigcheese). Thanks to everyone who help contribute.

    - Wardogs entirely removed. Not recruitable by any faction.

    - Druids have been removed from the game as a recruitable unit, although a Druidic type escorts troops onto the battlefield for the Gauls and Britons (like a General). They do not give any bonuses.

    - Incorporated Sgt. Venezuala's redone Roman textures for a more accurate portrayal of the legions. For more information, visit this thread:

    Changes from 1.0:

    - Macedon and Pontus are now unlockable after a successful Imperial Campaign. They also have custom maps in the faction selection screen.

    - Egypt is now The Ptolemaic Empire. Spain is now Iberia.

    - Greek Royal Pikeman now use pikes, instead of simple spears. Thanks to Eldaran for creating this fix first!

    - Wardogs are now EXCLUSIVE to the Barbarian factions. Roman factions can no longer produce these animals.Added Wardogs ability to Hide In Long Grass and Run Amok. Changed Attack from 14 to 12. Changed cost of upkeep from 40 to 100 to replicate replacement of handlers costs, etc, while still not making them an impossible choice to train. Decreased handler/dog ratio to 8/24.

    - All buildings build times extended by 1 turn, except the basic level of wall defences.

This is only a short list of the changes. To read all of the changes, click here.

    Installation:

This mod REQUIRES the official Rome Total War patch v1.1. Install the patch first, and then install this mod.

To install, simply extract to your Rome main folder. All of the needed files should extract to the correct folders themselves. Make SURE you make a back up of ALL the files ending in .txt in this folder. No graphics will be over written, but .txt files WILL be. We cannot be held responsible for any over written files. if they are accidentily over written, you will have to reinstall the game.

In the campaign\rome_total_realism folder additional map_.tga files can simply be copied from the imperial campaign foder. We left all but the Roman ones out to keep the zipfile as small as possible.

To play, start Rome and choose Single Player. Select Provincial Campaign, and then the rome_total_realism option.

This mod was made by Gaius Julius among others.

    Enjoy!

The only good bit is the skins i think. Removing units, even though it may be realistic seems too take something away from the game.

*smokin* Very nice work. I don't know if you slowed that battles down but it seems that I have more of a chance to take a moment now and then and enjoy the battle. Also the Germans and Gaul's, don't run around like naked stone age men. I loved RTW as it was but I love it more now. Keep up the work. :

This is prob. the stupidest question youll get but where is the option for a provincial campaign. I see imperial and historical, but no provincial.....any idea?

:p when you install it, you should of extracted it to your rome total war folder. go into that folder and read the readme file, there are two files you need to delete (it will tell you which two) to use the realism mod. READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY AND ONLY DELETE THE FILES YOUR SUPPOSED TO. after that, go to your rome total war folder, right click on the mod, and do extract to. then extract it to the rome total war folder again and say yes when it says to overwrite. after that go into the game, single player, then provincial campaign, click realism mod, then the arrow, choose difficutly level, and faction, then hit the arrow again and your campaign starts.

oh and by the way, i like some of the changes, but british warband have really red sheilds and when you move too far away from the unit, the unit skin goes back to normal, then when you get closer, it changes to the modded skin. owell, i just find this annoying, if there is a way to fix this, plz tell me. :

yeah, i follow the instructions but the option for "provincial" campaign just isnt there. Im going to try an uninstall/reinstall first.

I just followed the above exactly and the only options i have are the prologue, imperial, historical campaigns. No provincial. What am I doing wrong? I mean I followed the above to a T, even reinstalled prior to.

I think that it is not AUTOMATICALLY extracting the files to the directories and subs, that it is supposed to, instead ALL of the enclosed files are going in the main dir. Any ideas?
