Thread: 1.2 crash at startup

    Default 1.2 crash at startup

I updated to 1.2 and now I'm getting an unspecified error in the startup screen.

Welcome in the club. First I was getting the message that M2TW has encounter the unspecified error and bla, bla. When I change settings for program to work in the XP mode right now I'm getting message 'Please insert the correvt cdrom in your drive' WTF . I don't really know what to do. I will try to reinstall game but I'm so busy this weekend so that will not happen til wednesday. Why I get this patch

Yeah, it works from a fresh install

It's funny that CA took so much time making this patch and they didn't even check if it works when updating from 1.1

So, how does one fix this? I have the exact same problem.

Uninstall the game, delete the folder, install the game, install 1.2

That's exactly what I did just now; I uninstalled my 1.1 version, deleted the entire folder, then I reinstalled and even changed to another folder, followed by installing patch 1.2 and now I'm getting this error every time I start up.

This error already harassed me with 1.1, but at least that was fixable by deleting the geography files, now I don't have those files to delete and don't have a clue what to do. Fricking download, installation, patching already took 2+ hours, am so sick of it.

Do you get the exact same errors in the system.log?

    Default 1.2 crash at startup

Is there a US download site so I can try to download a US version. I wish I could gather up all the people who have a hand in this game and give them a piece of my mind.

Yes, pretty much the same. Except I don't get that "00:37:26.890 [system.io] [warning] open: :?vI@@ is missing" one, instead I get a bunch of warnings about missing txt files in the data folder. :/

This is effecting me too and has now killed all my interest in MTW2. After some google searches I found dozens of forums in various languages describing the same problem even after numorous reinstallations...easily effecting a large portion of the community. I'm quite tempted to swear right now to vent my anger at the moment. -_-

My best advice is to do a clean install of M2TW before installing the 1.2 patch. You do not need to install 1.1 before installing 1.2.

The location the patch is downloaded from does not determine the version. Whether you download the Enlgish patch from Greece or from San Francisco, it will be exactly the same.

Well, for me it seems to be working now. I yet again uninstalled the entire game, but this time I also used regcleaner to delete two entries which were left in the registry by the game (sidenote; these refer to campaign progress). I then made a clean install to the default folder, applied the patch and was able to start the game. I haven't tested it long but I did play a battle -the usual crash event- and it worked fine. Waits to be seen if it lasts and what happens when adding modded files. But for the time being...

I did what was said earlier in this thread and now my game works perfectly. I uninsalled MTWII and then I deleted the folder to get rid of everything. Then I reinstalled It and installed the patch again. (Note : Don't delete the 1.2 installer so you dont gotta download the patch again.) Also you do not need to install patch 1.1. Patch 1.1 will be installed as you are installing 1.2. Then once everything was installed it asked me to restart my computer and when I tryed to play it worked without problems.

Kinda sucks that I gotta start all over but I don't mind knowing that my frenchmen can finally fight off peasents.

    I tried the following:

Install over MTW II Patch 1.2 (leaked version) "error-> cannot install over bla bla
Deinstalled MTW II, deleted folder, kept entries, "unknown error"
Installed MTW II , attempted to install Patch 1.2 Final, "unknown error"
    Applied patch 1.1 ( which worked fine ) ,
Attempted to install patch 1.2 Final (unknown error)

That's crap. One is able to install a leaked patch that has allegedly bugs, can play with that patch. Then you go head and apply the "so called FINAL" patch, and what is the result, the install doesn't work at all
