Javelin-armed infantry

Hi,

I'm always fighting as Romans, and as most of you know, I quess , Legionaries for example throw javelins (pilium) before charge. Now here comes my problem... Everytime I fight an enemy I have my Legionaries in the front line. I find my Legionaries in a disadvantage: the throw-spear thing. When I'm find myself a defensive action, I put Fire-At-Will on. But when the enemy charges, it takes ages for the legionaries to pickup their javelins and get ready to throw... Once they're ready to throw, the enemy has already charged and I've already lost a lot of soldiers because they are standing defenseless while aiming.
And when I'm the first to charge, the legionaries stop at 10-20m infront of the enemy to throw javelins, at which moment the enemy feels threatenent and attack. Once again my legionaries can't defend themselfs because of the javelin they're aiming and throwing.

Is there any way to get rid of this last called problem? (to get your soldiers charge instandly instead of throwing javelins first)
Or any tips?

You can always touch the ALT buttom and then charge.
Nevertheless, if you follow my two thumbs rule, you are well, too:

Two Thumbs Rule: Double-Line with Intervalls, Delay and Support (DLIDS)*
*DLIDS works fine in EB.
