Thread: Music

Both are quite good for mobilization, or even battle music. Thank you John, they'll be a worthy addition to the East christians. I can say with certainty that the inclusion of music really makes a difference in the atmosphere. The addition for the Turkomans really gave a cinematic experience with them.

Also, thanks to Mirage's work, we now have managed to dispel what had been a real hindrance in cultures - We should be able to have a separate East Islam and West Islam music, along with West Christian and East Christian. Both will blend somewhat, but particularly in Campaign music they will retain their own quality. We should be able to get an Indian music set too, I'm just not 100% sure about it right now. East Islam will be covering the Kipchaqs. It's not great but there's no real point to a steppe culture (No buildings suitable for them) music set, since there will be only a handful of provinces which are steppe, and thus have steppe music in their battles. I wish that the game set battle music based on faction, rather than the culture of the territory, but I can see the logic in it, it sadly keeps us from having great Mongolian music when facing the Mongols.

Armenios, if you have those songs in audio format (.mp3 or .wmv, or .mpeg or whatever), it'd be better, I only included youtube links because I found those songs and thought people would just like to hear them.

Just a quick note: Byz, Armenia & Georgia will be using the same music. So please try to keep it as general and "caucasian/greek/mediteranean"-ish as possible.

Like Chants? That is really all the Armenians, Georgians and Byzantines have in common. The odd man out is really the Byzantines, but the chants will work well for them, too.
That does mean no duduk, which is a downside, because that can really be used for anything because it conveys such strong emotion, if I remember correctly, M2TW uses a duduk for the battle-deployment stage in any Middle-Eastern/North african region. It could be used if the Greeks have anything like it, but after the Classical Era, Greek and Caucasian culture really, really parted ways.

Well no. I think you misread what I said. Duduk is fine. What I mean is that don't give us the armenians national anthem or anything that is too patrioticly armenian/georgian to the point that the other guy will not tolerate listening to it.

But as far as traditional instruments its cool - if an armenian is offended by hearing the bouzoki or a georgian is offending by hearing a duduk then he needs to see a psychologist not a mod.

So we're going to include all type of music in the east-christian category - just not anything overtly nationalistic.

I don't have them in (.mp3 or .wmv, or .mpeg or whatever) format, but I guess there is a possibility to download from youtube and remake it. You just need a right program for it, which I'm not good at...

Now it is more clear of what you want.
If you want a song, which can work for 3 nations, then take http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjjTrmMlenI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWUAh8KwbN8. In this music you can find instuments which are commen in Greece/Georgia/Armenia etc.
Can not healp more then this much...

The Armenian music is fine! music of all people is fine, because, in folk music always is so sincere !

But I wish to tell, that Georgian and Armenian, also the Greek music very much differ from each other. It is necessary to listen to them and it is possible to find these distinctions distinctly.

The same music instrument certainly can be used either in Armenia, or in Greece, or in Georgia, on one instrument it is possible make different melodies, in fact so?

Thanks Grand Duke, going to take a look at it soon. Thanks to everyone else who has contributed as well. We'll be probably producing a lite music download with the mod, and an optional larger music download for those who choose to, depending on the size the music will add.

I have a HUGE collection of Middle Eastern (Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Persian, Jajouka, Kurdish, etc.) music, both contemporary and classical, a lot of which I think would be good material. I also have a lot of Medieval European/Christian music, and a whole album of some fantastic Byzantine Chant. IMO Turkish music has to be separate from Arab - it's just a completely different kind of music. If anyone working on the mod wants, I can send you as much music as you want on instant messenger. Just PM me if you want anything.
