Jp, there is no need to post wiki links here.

Why not, when I create an article that people can freely edit useful programs into am I meant to leave it to rot?

(I got repped for my link too )

WinMerge for incorporating changes in files without bringing over everything in the new file.

TextPad is a great free text editing program.

I use Photoshop and those two for virtually all of my modding needs.

My favourite free little gizmo just for re-naming files, like getting portraits in number sequence adding .tga to .dds extensions or changing cultures in building tga names:
    LupasRename

Glad someone started this subject it was on my to-do list as well. Could we get the program types divided by category, perhaps even into separate threads? As I think there might end up being a lot. I'd personally like to see paid for software included as well if possible together with vague indication of price and comments as to advantages if any.

I think it would be useful if at least the listings with some comments were transferred into the Wiki in the end as well. So poor old -apocalypsis- isn't necessarily lumbered for life with trying to update for every known bit of software. I think this forum, now we have it, should be really great though for feeding information in and discussing the pro's and con's of things - which isn't really suited to the Wiki.. (err, why does everyone else hate NotePad anyway?)

I would say the Gamecam too, as an alternative to Fraps if necessary.

    Gamecam

You got repped for putting it into the wiki, not for the link.

Keep the suggestions coming - I will try to put it in a better format once I have something to work with (and I am less busy than I am at the moment).

Well for me its better FPS, same reolution quality. ITs alright, though I would prefer Fraps, only if it took good FPS. Unregistered Gamecam doesnt record sound either.

You may find this list useful:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56295

i compiled it some time last years, not specificaly with modifications in mind - but it does have sections on 2d/3d editing and programing.

    EDIT:

hmm i keep getting a "The page cannot be displayed" error here at uni for the above link.. odd.
