How do you get the cities and castles to look big like they do on your campagin map?
Let's start naming stuff.
1) Over 100 siege towers? Saladin was NOT that dumb to spend all that money and resources on a siege that had a chance not to succeed.
2) Trebuchets!? The Egyptians DID NOT have trebuchets and WOULD NOT bombard the holy city! I mean, COME ON! It's like trying to take a lolypop from someone and shooting at him with a tank to get it back. It's just dumb.
3) Right... So, a blacksmith... Can easily become a knight with some made up reason... And then declare the whole city defenders knights? Bull.
Also - He lacks the charisma to command a beetle, so an army?
4) The plot holes in this movie are truly amazing, they are so large I'd even compare them to black holes.
5) The dialogues are nothing new nor anything believable, they are just bad.
6) Orlando Bloom is NOT a soldier, he looks more like a toy for the ladies, but definitely not like a soldier.
The list goes on. Go to the IMDB site of that movie, there's plenty of criticism there.![]()
I guess you should watch the Director's Cut (explains a lot of the plot holes, and there's nothing but praises on IMDB for the DC), and not going into it already with a disproportionate dislike for any particular actor, and a general understanding that Hollywood tends to exaggerate battles to make them more interesting. To get so stuck on historical details is probably what's making you lose perspective on the more important aspects of the movie, which are the morality issues. Usually these war movies are just fight fests like Gladiator and Troy, which is appreciable, but this movie deals much more with personal choices, struggles of morality, and other non-violent issues that go past the historical battle.
as for 3), his father was a knight and a baron, so yes when that's the case your father can just knight you and pass you his inheritance, and in fact, Balian actually did knight over sixty men when Saladin's army came and Jerusalem was without knights.
Suspense of disbelief, and a chance for actors that you dislike to do their part, would really help you enjoy this movie and probably most movies a lot more. Orlando Bloom wasn't the brilliant star of show, but he didn't do a bad job. It's not a documentary or a scholarly work, it's entertainment. Take it that way.
I like the film but i have to take it with a pinch of salt. The siege of Jerusalem was never that big was it? After he knacked the main army historically didn't he pretty much just walk in?
No it wasn't big at all. The main army was defeated at Hattin and Jerusalem was surrendered after minimal resistance. The movie definitely isn't historically accurate, but it's not the point of the movie and shouldn't solely disqualify it. I'm glad you liked the movie.
Here are some of my screenshots

of course i cheated, i got all the best stuff on turn one by adding population to all my castles and instantly building all of the barracks and stuff, its not going to save me though, Egypt took Gaza and Kerak and are besieging Jerusalem with 8 Full Stacks, im going to have to evacuate to Rhodes to save myself
