sorry, your are in a wrong thread. there is no orange poland. its red. i came from there, so i know it a little bit. this are the banners from "tannenberg "or from other side "grunwald".

byzantinum has a red banner. the cavalry banner is historical.

I'm looking at your Byzantium (East Roman) banners and I noticed they have Jesus, Mary, and other Christian figures there. Is that historically accurate, did the Byzantines really put religous images like that on their banners?

no. this are only the upgrade banner, so i dreaming a little bit
only the cavalry banner is historical. the other one are my fantasy in the style of the cavalry flag and with the eagle of the east roman empire.

in the early period they used pictures of holy persons, you saw it in the late roman period.

i used the stuff i found. it very hard for a fan to find out, how the banner looked at the 10th century.

Yes religious figures were featured in banners however they were not found on shields (common misunderstanding). Mary was quite the popular lady from what I hear too. The textures on the shields look great Joe. They look really sharp the only suggestion I would make would be to give em a little more texture, though with the low res I can not really tell if you have in fact done that already. The banners look sharp too you might consider going through and painting in some highlights and shadows to make the banners look a little wavy. All in all nice work I give it .

They did have red banners. It is my understanding that the red colour on the turkish flags today and the ottoman empire before that, was adopted from the remnants of byzantium after the fall of Constantinople because MehmedII saw himself and the ottoman empire as a continuation of the eastern empire.

that's some fine work joedreck. well done.
