Hardly, I like it. But we've got to find some system that not every available modder's PM box get spammed by everyone, even those who aren't modders, for help etc. -> it can be annoying

Well the way it works is you start a thread and people respond to it. Most mod teams ask for PM response anyway.

Ah was wondering a bit about something like this (actually only the help wanted part) in response to the other thread on wasted effort etc..

Is there any way to sort the recruitment requests by category (historic / fanatasy ) and era, either within the forum itself or in an updated list on a stickie. That way if things get grouped together and it can clearly be seen that there's say: three M2TW Napoleonic mods all looking for different people, perhaps they could draw the obvious conclusion....

Also if it is mid-forums I think it needs the game put on it as well as some people don't have / won't work on one or other.

Hmm, only way i can think to do them by category is by giving them sub forums, see how much use it gets before i do that, Or simple answer is for posts to include what are for in the title.

    ie;
    MTW2 skinner wanted. (historic)
    RTW coder wanted. (Fantasy)
    Rome era historian available.

    Or.

    Fourth age is recruiting (fantasy)

I could add them as examples to the sticky. In fact will do as guide examples.

No, not the last one. It is "Fourth Age is recruiting (fantasy (LotR))".

    No kidding, really.

EDIT: Agh, this won't work. If we keep cluttering the forum up with "Profiles" of modders who are obivously busy, it'll be impossible for the mod teams to snap up available talents or available modders to find mod teams. It should rather be a few stickies, two for each category (categories being profiles, available modders and recruiting teams); One who lists all the info, the other in which people may post their info to get it added to the other thread. Got it?

Hmm, i did say if we get enough profiles i would open a sub forum for them, though a sticky would be just as good, as for sticking the others, that won't work as all forms would be in one thread, to confusing.

I think the idea of it being in one sticky thread for recruitment would work if some poor soul up-dates the top post with a current summary and puts the summary in order of historic / era etc ...

.... just need volunteer..... walks away quickly

Only thing I'd worry about is it would put the more tenuous off, as an internal assessment guide though that is more on the money.

I think the idea of it being in one sticky thread for recruitment would work if some poor soul up-dates the top post with a current summary and puts the summary in order of historic / era etc ...
To complicated?, see how it goes for a week or so, if there is a flood of entries i can split them into sub forums, see how it works out first.

It might be better, though, to use some sort of guideline for modding skills. People (in addition to a little exaggeration) also tend to be vague. I've had a look through the profiles and already stopped and thought "what does that mean?".

It would have to be kept extremely simple, maybe a template post with the areas listed so that the profile submitter could just deleted those not applicable; and with descriptions attached to each he or she could be more accurate in their decisions as to which to keep in or not.

Some things are not modding per see, they are skills that are very valuable - like advanced Excel skills, concept artists, historical research etc. and these should be included too.

Just some thoughts to further tie up the time of staff who would probably like to do more modding than they currently are because of forum duties

The profiles are only meant to be brief introduction and give noobs a quick look at who might be a good person to ask a question, I get plenty of Pm's asking specific skinning queries, to be honest if i also added that i am an animation compositor and sometimes director i would expect quite a few more, and i really don't want to come here and be flooded with the same stuff i get at work. If others want to add that sort of thing they can in the additional info.

They?. how am i doing at deflecting extra thoughts so far.

Edit; No matter how much i put into templates or guides some people just don't use them.

Ok the profiles seem a popular idea (good to know who's ego's are alive and well ) so i moved them into a sub forum.

Halie, you may want to add to the sticky for the younger or less experienced crowd that they should put some effort into how they present themselves.

For example, if one is interested in coding or scripting then the post should probably not contain gobs of spelling errors and leetspeak. Such things make a poor impression when someone like myself (a coding/scripting lead for a mod) looks at a candidate. If they can't be bothered to write a coherent post, then I pretty much am not going to want to have them writing code for me.

Can anyone think of a mod that does not need any more (or any) modellers? Nope, me neither. Seems strange to have ads asking for them...maybe just have an ad saying "All mods seek modellers" I kid of course, but seriously I can see a huge list of posts saying "x mod needs a modeller"...we could do with another at FATW too

It's easier to go to the classified section rather than into the individual hosted sections of RTW, BI, MTW2, and then into the forums of each mod, no?.

Hopefully though there will be members posting 'available' threads as well, which really was the main reason for it, also it was a place i could sneak in the profiles section which should prove useful in time.

Well this is sort of true at every game dev and modding team I've seen, yet, the forum this is based off of (gamedev.net) doesn't have a problem with too many threads... the first page fills up every couple days, knocking threads off, usually once a month or so you see the same team create a new thread... the Help Wanted there has a sort of 'regulars' who frown on no-accomplishment teams that frequently bump or repost without letting at least a couple weeks go by, and those threads are beaten up pretty quickly.

Also, I frequently got responses when my thread was a few days or even a couple weeks old (as far back as page 4).
Count no man happy until he is dead.
