help w/ SS 3.0 install!

i try to install but it say it cannot because
it cannnot create the following file.... king_norrk?ing.$$a.
about half way thru intallation process.

i had a problem with the filefront installer so i downloaded from the other link and it installed fine.

Actually this should mean king_norrköping.tga. I have no idea at the moment what could have caused this...
My "test-installation" worked really fine.

Looks to me like his system does not support unicode. I'm guessing when you did the installer (I've not tried it, still got an old SS2 campaign to finish) you did it on a system that fully supports unicode or you were using some other non-ASCII character set.

@kong, i told u what probably will solve my problem i think in a post of 3.0 release on accident -.-
if you can put up a zip version of the mod, so i can just manually move stainless steel into the MTW2 directory, it should install fine.
the problem seems to arise when i am using some type of .exe installer.

ive had this problem before with another mod, and zip method seems to have solved it fine in the past. so i guess it comes down to....put up a zip version of the mod please?

Hi Student,

Well, I can't say that the patch will definately work, but I think I can say that it works for the most people, including myself.
So, I think it's worth to try the patch out, because you'll see soon if it works or not. Just try if you can enter a siege battle and then you know if the patch works.
On the other you can also wait a few days, also when I've no idea when the new patch finally arrives...

Unicode or just plain character set problems can be an absolute pain to solve (Replacing chars with a ? is a classic sign of a character set problem). I've had lots of fun with old versions of MySQL and reading/writing non English characters to the database, as well as getting Windows 98 etc to work.

I'm not sure what the min requirements for Med2 are but the following may help

Win95 to Win98/ME - Needs the Microsoft Unicode layer for Windows installed before this old OS can understand Unicode. This update is a manual download from the MS website and does not appear in Windows update.

Windows 2000 - I think having service pack 4 installed by default should be enough.

Windows XP/Vista - Are Unicode enabled by default.

The only other thing I can think of if to check the regional settings on the computer in question and make sure the code pages are setup properly, but I have no idea what a proper setup looks like. Sorry.

I'm having trouble here, I got 1.2 installed and I used that rar and copied all contents to a folder I made in MTW2 called 'Stainless_Steel", but when I try the .bat file to get it started, the game doesn't start. I can play vanilla just fine.
