    Default Rhodes?

This thread is to entertain the possibility of having Rhodes as the faction using the "greek_cities" faction slot, instead of Sparta.

As always, please explain your reasoning behind your vote.

Like i said in the other post refering to sparta, rhodes surrounded by massive empires almost on all fronts would be alot more enjoyable to play as.

How true, movies and hero cults have a way of swaying things
since its a question between sparta and rhodes by the sound of it, rhodes would be far more entertaining, their situation would be challenging yet rewarding, stuck on there wee island of rhodes with pergamum, the seleucids, egyptians and macedon all surrounding it, fantastic opertunity to expand, it would be the eastern version of syracuse.

Since alot of factions will be played and the results would be
on what the player would do. Id say most of the time unhistorical,
according to the faction they play with unless there is a script.

Unless your haveing the factions face each other in that time peroid
    according to history.
My choice would be Sparta ( unhistorical
or rodes historical ( in a way ) but what will be done to play the greeks?
    of athans or sparta?
But i would miss those hopelites in the game.
at least concider what EB did with their greek Spartans.

You won't miss recruiting any of the city hoplites if you play as a Greek faction (Sparta/Rhodes, Pergamum, etc) and capture that city.

Ugh, Rhodes never did much to earn respect, except for being exceptional navymen. And the cyprus affair...

Well if you had Sparta you could make a bunch of corny 300 references while playing.... But I agree Rhodes. Theres more intrigue in playing as Rhodes, plus they are surrounded by factions, so tons of places to expand. the only problem I see coming up with them is the A.I.'s unwillingness to attack Islands or use naval invasions.

    Sparta People!!

Sparta for one will bring a lot of fans to the mod, and improve gameplay in the pelops as aja said. Rhodes would be a nice faction, but it it were Sparta or Rhodes, definitely Sparta.

i am torn between my love of small isolated fortresses and sparta. i would like to have sparta for easy macedonian expansion, but i also love rhodes for its easy expansion into turkey, egypt, and the seleucid empire. i voted rhodes because my love of small defensible places won out.

Like having Spartan Hoplites with "THIS IS SPARTA!" war cries?
I killed the worlds greatest General and all I got was this faction in a TW game.

See, the thing about having Sparta is that all the people that voted to have Sparta aren't thinking about it from the same direction. I'm sure that some people actually thought it over rationally, and decided that they would rather bee a singe city on the Peloponesus, as opposed to an island fortress off the rich coast of Asia Minor. However, the other voters may not have actually thought about it, and read the opinions of others in the thread, but just came into the thread, said
    "ZOMG, SPARTA is t3h pwnz0rz, i w4n7 7h3m 2 pl4y!!!"
Personally, I am much more intrigued by having Rhodes as a faction, because it was, honestly, more of a power than Sparta was, at the time, and was not on as steep of a downward path as the Spartans were, as they were still stuck in the military and political mindset of the Peleponesian Wars and the Persian Wars of 200 years earlier.

I think that Sparta dont get a new faction because at these times,it lost messene and the only thing what they was at these times was :fractional

But rhodes was more important then athens and every diadochi wanted peace with them because rhodes were one of the most important trade partner

Example:Rhodes was destroyed by an earthquake
but every kingdom helped the to buid rhodes again
    why?because it was so important

sparta was only a shadow of his past at these times

I would vote for Rhodes, for historical reasons, but I won't because I don't think the AI would use them to their full potential and let's be fair, a faction not doing anything is a faction not worth having.
Sparta, on the other hand, is a-historical as well...

Perhaps another faction? The Belgae? Illyria? Athens?

Rhodes is the one to pick if we want to be historically correct.
