    Icon5 Sparta?

Okay, guys, we've added some new members to the team, and we want to feel out the waters among the fans who actually play or are looking to paly the mod before we implement something new in it.

How would you feel about having a Spartan faction in the year 220 BCE?

Vote in the poll, and then please explain your reasoning.

    Thanks!

i'd like something difficult to kill in greece normally, legionary tactics just chew up the phalanxes abit of variety might do my troops good!

Note that if we added Sparta as a faction it would replace the 'Greek Cities' faction -- so it wouldn't be Sparta AND the Greek Cities...

A spartan faction would be historicly correct since in that time they still were a so-so power in the peloponesus, they fought big battles during those times, against megalopoli and the macedonians too.
It is a really great idea and I hope that it will be accepted.

is it possible to remove the Free People faction that takes the place of the Slave faction to make room for a Spartan faction?

No, doing this would be like taking out the Roman Legion skins - it would be removing what makes this mod different from all others.

    No i wouldnt
The reason for this is at this peroid of time there was allience between
sparta and athans and i think crete. Corth belonged to mace.
and all the others were independent unless under aurthorty of athans.
Which was the major power at that time.

It would also take away another slot for a new faction ? or would it? faction which i would love to have. My reasoning is the modd EB, keeping the balance yet haveing fun with the what ifs ,as the players empire grows, what ever empire that may be.

I would say if the player wishs to play the greek states ( which isnt its true name should be historical. ) I would first call them Aetoliane league. haveing the three Sparta , Athans , Rodes or crete.

leaveing it up to the player if he wishs sparta to grow first or athans, or stay the same.
Its under the freepeoples at the first isnt that enough?
Just take it, in a few moves and you have a new state.

Also remember spartas elites come later on i guess around 244 b.c.
and other greeks could take it easy at this time.
The spartans arnt the same as the past and meny states and factions would know their tactics by now. wouldnt you think?

It would be fun but would take away the historcal record which does add the fun.
Iam seeing more and more historical things here, lets keep it up.
Or you could add a patch for players to play sparta as a faction or leave it as a state in the Aetoliane League.
anyhow at least change the name for the greeks to that league.

Be sure and read the question carefully. 220BC. Sparta was indeoendent then, and under no ones control.

We're just 'theorizing' right now, and checking options. But the start date will eventually change to 220BC. End date the same.

I definitely think Sparta should be in. Historically, they were on a downslope, but if they had won that battle, things may have been different. I say give them a chance.

Why the change date ? What is the purpose ?
and will that change getting some new factions in with the ones you have allready?

It is an interresting idea yet.

Basically it means we have more faction slots (edited) and we plan on making a number of changes. Plus it will be the only mod to start then, and hopefully set it apart and make it unique.

And we're just going to let you slurp and drool and wonder as to what those factions are, but this thread is to test the waters regarding the possiblity of one of them.....

Although we can say that we haven't yet figured out how to fit China in, so it won't be one of them... (But whether dvk is hard at work at a future 'Rome vs. China' mod, my lips are sealed...)
