My family line for the eastern roman empire is about to end, to a adopted son with a cyphrus wife.... Hes going to become regent, but that's the last thing I want, when I think he does infact have biological brothers, under the name communus, which have the last name of his mother, so why would it not simply transfer to one of his brothers or brothers sons, which are more related(or atleast half brothers, if they are not full) then the adopted one which would become regent, then his sons become true emperors....

i have a problem there, too.

way too many adoptions, and 9 out of ten wifes get the spoiled by birth trait. at least it feels like that. which is completely not cool.
    this should be toned down!

i've had to kill a total of 6 (six!) adopted generals to get one of the original bloodline to be heir.

and a question to our beloved modfathers:
does an adopted family member get the "founder of a royal dynasty" trait when the original bloodline died out?
if not, couldn't that be implemented? would be funny if the original dynasty was followed by a new one...

Don't adopt generals! I've adopted a No Adoption policy. Won't adopt at all, and I don't accept "man of the hour" requests.

Also, the Spoiled By Birth chance is being lowered for the upcoming version, if I recall correctly.

I have played about 3 campaigns in DLV 2.0, the wife spoiled by birth trait was never much of an issue happened once i think, and am sort of "on the fence" for the not enough biological sons issue, certain members of my family would have a few sons, of english blood.

Others would have none, even though they were young, had robust and popular wives, and were in a settlement for a good few years (not sure if this affects it or not, but i think it should).

I don't think it would hurt to give the family members a little bit of viagra

Think there should be a minmum chance per turn for a new family member, then whatever the traits add on, and if the character is in a settlement or not, if they are in a settlement and not off on campaign, it would make sense that the chances of a shag would increase. And as the character spends longer and longer in a settlement, the chance should continue to increase, <<<but that last one isin't that necassary and might be too compicated to implement.

Hmm, never thought of that. Makes more sense, as far as semantics go.

I have adopted the same policy as Premaximum, I never adopt yet continue to conquer new provinces. The more provinces you have combined with a small amount of family members equals a higher chance of wives giving birth, especially to males. Even when a General's wife gets the 'Spoilt by Birth' trait, she will continue to give birth to children. I had a King get the spoilt by birth trait with his first child but his wife gave birth to another 3 kids! This was only because I stuck to the no adopt policy. Another good way to ensure male heirs is to marry off all princesses to foreign factions, no matter how good looking they are . This too will ensure you won't get asked to marry them to a 'Suitable Prince'...

I've just started a new campaign on 2.11, 40 turns in as english, got plenty of kids for rufus robert and henry, and have adopted 2 generals, one i adopted for a crusade, don't expect him to come back, the other i adopted because he was a good governor, (high chiv rating). And only 1 "wife had difficult birth" trait. Can't remember who it was for, think it was after she had 3 kids.

Hm I like to use the princesses of other factions to mix my blood up with some of the other European Dynasties.

I Married Prince Robert of Sicily to a German Princes, Thus his children got the 'Germanic relation' Trait. I married Roberts son to a Polish princess, But he is yet to come of age.

Will the son still have the 'German relations' trait?

Yes, if Robert's son has the "Germanic Relations" trait, Robert's grandson will have the trait, along with "Polish Relations".

@HIGGUM - the reason for the apparent infertility may be that your number of family members far exceeded your number of provinces at the time (if indeed it did). The game seems to stunt child bearing when this is the case...
