Medieval Georgia

Kingdom of Georgia at peak of its military dominance, 1184-1225

The Georgian Kingdom reached its zenith in the 12th to early 13th centuries. This period has been widely termed as Georgia's Golden Age or Georgian Renaissance. The revival of the Georgian Kingdom was short-lived however, and the Kingdom was eventually subjugated by the Mongols in 1236. Thereafter, different local rulers fought for their independence from central Georgian rule, until the total disintegration of the Kingdom in the 15th century. Neighbouring kingdoms exploited the situation and from the 16th century, the Persian Empire and the Ottoman Empire subjugated the eastern and western regions of Georgia, respectively.

The rulers of regions which remained partly autonomous organised rebellions on various occasions. Subsequent Persian and Turkish invasions further weakened local kingdoms and regions. As a result of wars against neighbouring countries, the population of Georgia was reduced to 250,000 inhabitants at one point.

Eristavebi


Eristavi - this is great feudal lord in Georgia in the epoch of feudalism. Saeristavo - indicates the administrative division in Georgia, under the management of appointed as king by eristavi. First ,,Saeristavo”, based with the first king of Kartli (Iberia) – Pharnavaz I. He divided kingdom by administrative neighbourhoods - saeristavo and were placed its there officials assigned, Eristavs. In the antique Iberian (Katlian) kingdom there were only eight saeristavo. When in Georgia the epoch of feudalism came, then king officials - eristavi of steel by strong, rich and influent feudal class, their feudal of about- ancestors it is possible to consider “large aznaur’s”, which managed fortresses. Eristavi, as strong feudal lords had their fortress, the large hereditary earth and the well armed and trained guards. "Khevsureti - one of the most beautiful high-mountainous region of east Georgia. There during centuries it was created unique culture and originality Khevsurs, Pshavs, Tush’s and other mountain Georgian tribes. One of basic elements of this original culture is systematized military art. Khevsurs, in other as well as other mountaineers, perfect own art of fencing and protection in fight. In Middle Ages Khevurs the pedestrian and horse groups created special divisions in royal army of Georgia. Proud and aggressive Khevsurs, being free and independent from the feudal lords, were often called in bodyguard of the Georgian kings. Khevsurs are dressed beat in a chain armor, it is frequent their headdress from a chain armor closed all person Khevsur warrior. on the walls of several Georgian churchs IX c. - XII c. also we found this simbol. also on the coin of quin Tamar the Great (1184-1210).

Okay I updated some stuff.

The stats will be done last by the team members who will deal with this area. We will probably use the RealCombat system to determine this. I'm afraid that each ethnic subgroups is supercharging their respective factions - so I need to be wary of this.

Secondly, the descriptions are good but I will have to do major... ummm.. "proofreading" and redrafting to make it easier to read and less "historish".

Thirdly, Georgia will start with only Kutaisi and Tbilisi. Tbilisi will be a fort and Kutaisi a city. Trust me guys, this will be much more fun to seize rebel and seljuk lands and instead of starting with 5 cities. Its frankly a gameplay issue and most faction will start with 2 - 4 cities at most. Smaller factions will start with 2, medium ones with 3 and larger ones with 4.

I agree with stats, but only request plz: use for Monaspa Lancers model - Russian Tsars guard, NOT Boyar model, becouse in reality Monaspa was powerfull charging havy cavalry, with horse armour too. Universal soldiers.

The flag is said to have been used by early Georgian feudal states. A similar flag is shown in the Libro del Conoscimiento de todos los Reinos (XIVth century)for Sivas (Sebasteia). Sebasteia was the capital city of the former Byzantine province of Armenia Prima, and Sivas is today the capital city of the velyat of Sivas, in Cappadocia. The new flag of Georgia doesnt really have to be related with this historical banner.

However, I said something wrong when I said that the exact symbol the georgian flag has today is an ancient cilician symbol. But there actually is a very similiar ancient symbol that has a blue cross with 4 small blue crosses in each corner. Its hard to find sources on it online. I'll see if I can dig something up in some books

by this Georgian shields will be more colorfull, then with only 5 crosses simbols

Are these symbols accurate for the time? I've had three different people tell me three different things about the Georgian symbols. I am wary to change a set of shields unless you are sure that these should be present. Also bare in mind that many of the Georgian units are using kite or round shields with a big metal boss that sets in the center, this limits the use of such symbols.

2. for Monaspa lancers use from Vannilla - Russian Tsars Guard model ! this my request is optionally , plz ! if we want make historycal right model, Georgian havy cavalry alweys use horse armor and Tsars Guard model is same Georgian Monaspa cavalry... ! PLZ !!!

The Monaspa lancer unit is using the Tsars guard model already. Do you mean the unit, or the mount (horse)? I can change the mount no problem, but do we really want a super-heavily armoured cavalry mount like this? Or something a little lighter?

3. from Metsikhovne's shields cut the Cilician Armenian simbol - red lion with cross and put here st. George simbol ! this is also optional reques

This was fixed long ago, but I think I didnt post a screenshot of the change.
