If you lived in ancient Greece where would you like to fight as a hoplite? You can mention your faction of HCS and -only- one ancient battlefield-a single historic battle-as the monumental place of your eternal bravery and glory.

Ive merged your "living in Hellas" and "fighitng in Hellas" as they are similar and the living one was turning into this kind of discussion anyhow

    Hi all,

If I lived in Ancient Greece and it's affiliated territories, it would be Syracuse.

Why? Progressive thinkers lived there. Maybe hoplite tactics would've turned out to be more flexible thus wiping out the Romans prematurely!

I think i would like to live in Sibari as hippie-tyrant and make love not war ! Happy feasts and dances all day, fantastic meals and various foods, wonderful music and nice chicks (hot greco-italian babes he he )That's life for a genuine ancient greek!! And let the foolish Spartans train themselves all day (in men's companions of course )..
    -But,Sir,the problem remains and is called C R O T O N . . .
-Thank you General ! I know it ! I must do something about it ... quickly! Hire Mercs !!!

What kind of fun is that? I personally (If i wanted to be a Hoplite) Would prefer being one of the Spartan Hippeis being ready and able for combat.

Rather have a short life of Glory then a long one in luxery.

What militaristic spirit is that? Peace ,dear friends, peace! MAKE LOVE NOT WAR ! Go Italy-south especially- and try to be kings-like Dionysius of Syracuse - and then ENJOY pleasures of life ! You can use mercenaries for your safety like the Carthaginians did ! Remember ! Life is short..

Anyone who's read Xenophon or Plutarch's work that apply in Greek or in an unbiased translation would know that the Spartans banned homosexuality in their state...

Don't get your facts from Wikipedia or the history channel.

I was under the impression that Plutarch stated that homosexuality was encouraged in Spartan barracks? And despite being one of my favourite historians, is Xenophon not somewhat biased?

The Spartan homosexuality/pederasty arguments are tiresome and unending.
