    Default Help with campaign map modding (please)

    I'm trying to take the FA:TW map and replace it with a new one which is totally different.

    To make it easier for myself, I have reduced it to two provinces and am having the following problem:

    The game starts and opens fine, the two provinces are the only ones on the map, the two factions are the only ones and the two faction armies are the only ones and have started where I expected them to start.

    So, the game is reading in my new files.

    However, it is still using the original FA:TW FE map for the landscape! (ie. rivers, hills, land-types are still the original LOTR map)

    I have regenerated the map_heights.hgt file from my map_heights.tga file, but nothing is changing (at least I think I have).

    Can someone help?

    did you delete the map.rwm (rome world map) file?
    this is generated from the tgas when the previous rwm has been deleted

    yes - I think the problem is that I'm trying to do a grid of 'rooms' (for the mines of Moria) and I was using sea as the divider - and BI doesn't like that.

    I've started again using high-mountains as the dividers and it seems to be working a lot better (so far)

    Tacticalwithdrawal, if you can make this new map work, will you upload so that others (me ) can download it?

    yeah, no probs. I want to actually turn it into a little minimod, basically:

    • 1 Dwarf tribe (coming to take the place back)
    • 4 Orc tribes
      • 1 Snaga (basically weak but numerous)
      • 1 Full orc (metalwork specialists + Warg cavalry)
      • 1 Uruk orcs (not so many but much more powerful)
      • 1 'King of moria' (mixture of the other tribes, but lesser numbers)


    We'll see where it goes but yes, I'll release bits if I can get them to work

    About the map. Are you sure that you've changed every necessary TGA or TXT file and they the map_ground_types.tga and map_heights.tga match up perfectly ?

    Getting there (slowly!) - the original cause of the problem was (I think) too many separate sea regions (about 200....)

    I'm now starting again and it is looking good - but will take a while as RL interupts a lot
