I think I've found a bug with the Export_Descr_Unit Editor. Clicking Save Unit Changes seemed to work fine. However, if you then click Select again (refreshing the units details) the Sound setting for Secondary Armour is missing. This happens every time you click the Save button, regardless of whether you have made any changes to the unit or not. I've tried typing the value back in manually, but it just disappears again when I save.

It doesn't stop the game from working though. The only reason I noticed this at first is because I was using the error log to find problems with new regions I'm adding to the campaign map.

I hope you can fix it because your editor makes things soooo much easier. On a side note, could you add Charge Distance to the Mass Editing feature?

    Keep up the good work.
I'll look into the sound problem. I don't have the data files with me currently so I can't test it. In the meantime - I've uploaded a new version with the charge distance mass edit features you requested.

    Thanks,

My first thought would be to make sure you have the .NET 2.0 Framework installed. If you do, then make sure when you unzipped the download you kept the directory structure intact.

Other than that, I'm not really sure. This happens after you run the program and choose an editor from the menu?

    Thanks,

Hi - I am having the same problem that other bloke was having with teh unit editor. Basically I am editing away - I save it - start new campaign and nothing...no joy.

Im wondering, if maybe the .txt files have to be in a particular subdirectory or something to work - or should they all just be in Data->

Any help you can give is much appreciated - mod looks awesome and must hve been so much work for you - tis only right that I get it working to do justice to your efforts.

    Thanks

First of all congrats and thanks for creating that tool. Its awesome!
But there seems to be a problem:
Whenever you put the EDU file through your EDU Edit Plugin it removes some data entries. I checked it, you don't even have to change anything, it "eats" those entries even after loading and saving the EDU file.
    Here is and example:

Normal EDU has entries like that:

    type baghlah
    dictionary baghlah ; Baghlah
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Light
    soldier Peasants, 50, 0, 1
    ship heavy warship
    attributes sea_faring, can_withdraw
    formation 50, 50, 75, 75, 1, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 18, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, slashing, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 22, 0, flesh
    ;stat_armour_ex 0, 0, 0, 0, 22, 0, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 1150, 350, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Peasants
    ownership egypt, turks, moors
    ;unit_info 18, 0, 22

    The "eaten" values in red.
after using the Plugin you get:

    type baghlah
    dictionary baghlah ; Baghlah
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Light
    soldier Peasants, 50, 0, 1
    ship heavy warship
    attributes sea_faring, can_withdraw
    formation 50, 50, 75, 75, 1, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 18, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, slashing, none, 25, 1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 22, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 1150, 350, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Peasants
    ownership egypt, turks, moors

This doesn't cause the game to crash, and (to my very surprise) shows no errors regarding the EDU file in log. Conclusion is, the plugin deletes every line starting with ; whenever loading or saving the EDU file.
But then I start changing the EDU file using Mass Editor. I this case I multiplied all units recruitment times by 4.
    Before the mass editing I have modified EDU file without lines starting with ;

    type baghlah
    dictionary baghlah ; Baghlah
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Light
    soldier Peasants, 50, 0, 1
    ship heavy warship
    attributes sea_faring, can_withdraw
    formation 50, 50, 75, 75, 1, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 18, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, slashing, none, 25, 1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 22, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 1150, 350, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Peasants
    ownership egypt, turks, moors

So the EDU file state after loading/saving it with the plugin,
I use the mass editor and get:

    type baghlah
    dictionary baghlah ; Baghlah
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Light
    soldier Peasants, 50, 0, 1
    ship heavy warship
    attributes sea_faring, can_withdraw
    formation 50, 50, 75, 75, 1, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 18, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, slashing, none, 25, 1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 22, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, , flesh !!!!!!!
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 4, 1150, 350, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Peasants
    ownership egypt, turks, moors

This time it added a ", " (coma with blank space afterwards) in stat_sec_armour line (marked in red). Still no error logs regarding EDU, but if I'm not deaf I can't hear the armor sound in battles.
But with another modification (using mass editor to multiply recruitment cost by 4) it removed "flesh" in the very same line:

    type baghlah
    dictionary baghlah ; Baghlah
    category ship
    class light
    voice_type Light
    soldier Peasants, 50, 0, 1
    ship heavy warship
    attributes sea_faring, can_withdraw
    formation 50, 50, 75, 75, 1, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 18, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, slashing, none, 25, 1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, no, melee_simple, blunt, none, 25, 1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 22, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, , !!!!!!!!
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 8, normal, trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 4, 4600, 1400, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280
    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Peasants
    ownership egypt, turks, moors

And we have the log error for the first time:

    16:37:48.484 [script.err] [error] Script Error in roadtojerusalem/data/export_descr_unit.txt, at line 157, column 1
unrecognised armour sound type 'stat_heat 0

    stat_ground 0, 0, 0, 0

    stat_mental 8, normal, trained

    stat_charge_dist 30

    stat_fire_delay 0

    stat_food 60, 300

    stat_cost 4, 4600, 1400, 250, 250, 1150, 4, 280

    armour_ug_levels 0

    armour_ug_models Peasants

    ownership egypt, turks, moors

and this goes for all units so quite long error log.

As I can't work any further into this (programing noob), giving testing results was as much as I could do.
Hope you can look into this, as the tool is one of the most handy for begining modders like me, who only wish to experiment with unit stats.
    Nevertheless thanks in advance

For those that have the same problem.
Guess the best option is to use this plugin to change stats and than use a free program CompareIt! to manually add the missing lines. Program can be found here:

Lines starting with ; are comments which are not read by the engine, they are removed because the editor does not 'see' them. It's safe to leave those lines out.

The extra , on the sec_armor line is a problem, thanks for pointing it out in detail. I will look at it and try to get a fixed version out soon.

EDIT: Found/Fixed problem - was pretty clear when I could see the example from Jahoo. sec_armour had an extra , in the line, this now should not happen. New version uploaded in the Download post.

I'm getting a "syntax error in expression" error when I try to do more than 2 expressions in Mass Editing. For example

ownership = 'byzantium', class = 'heavy'

    will give the error.

WHile I'm at it I think the example given in the program is wrong, 'class' doesn't work, 'cls' does =)

Ok, I tried the things you told me to in the other thread, and this is what happened:
    - I downloaded the full editor.
    - I unpacked the Teutonic campaign.
    - I opened (loaded) the export_descr_unit file with the editor
    - I changed this: nr of soldiers, multiplication, 2 (no min or max)
    - I applied the settings.
    - I saved it as export_descr_unit in the mods/teutonic/data folder (replacing the old one).
    - I added the error reporting thingy in the medieval preferences.cfg file
    - I started the Teutonic campaign. The game switched to the intro screen (before the trailer), then exited without an error report. No report in the log folder...

Any help ? Tomorrow I'll try to reinstall .NET 2.0.

Make sure you deleted the geography files as per the unpacker instructions if you unpacked into the teutonic campaign.
Makre sure youadded the log thingy to the teutonic cfg file
Make sure you added the io file first command to the teutonic cfg or the shortcut.

I can't seem to find the teutonic.cfg file? Where exactly is it located?

Oh yeah, and sorry for being such a nub, I know quite some things about modding other games, but you know, every game is different :p.

No problem - we all started somewhere.

The teutonic cfg file would be in the mods\teutonic folder, but I just checked and it doesn't have one....

So with the original unmodified EDU your teutonic game works, but after modding it it crashes with no error?

Attach your EDU or PM it to me and I'll take look at it. Is that the only file you changed?

Yep. I've attached it to my post. The first file is the original EDU +50 soldiers/unit, the second one is the RC EDU with +40 soldiers/unit. Now something even stranger happened: the game doesn't crash anymore, but nothing not a single change takes effect... Oh yeah, and when I applied the changes with your editor, then made a Kingdoms compatible save and closed the application, a message said that I didn't save my changes ? Maybe include a modified file you made for your own, so I can try that one.

I see a problem with the files - I'll upload a fixed version of the editor soon.
I'll fix the didn't save message as well.

    Edit - Uploaded new version.

    Thanks mate!

Edit: Doh, it still doesn't work. I tried with the Brittania campaign this time, unpacked the game, loaded EDU, +50 soldiers/unit, saved Kingdoms compatible... You know the drill. I added the io_file first thing to the shortcut, started the game, but nothing has changed... It's supposed to work with the huge unit settings, right? And with skirmish/campaign? I've included my file again (with +50) so you can take a look (if you still have the energy and nerves lol). Oh, and forgot to mention, I even repaired my NET 2.0 installation.
