I'm now on even harder campaign :
have taken Ceylon with only two starting provinces .
Of course,it'd be right to say that AI never would launch 10th. invasion on island so player can defend it ,at least.Yes,but they ,as Buddhists, have only religious enemies as neighbors. It somewhat more sophisticated though:they can married into Indic. But since I was attacked by some Muslim ally of Maldives, also Muslim, and their retreating troops stepped on my capital ,without fort, several times before I noted with horror that my prestige
is like *-50*no one would not like me and even my allies did not allow me military access.Or religious brothers,in Indo-China, refused married which led to further decline of Prestige.Embarrassing.
So, the situation was crappy.First idea(and only ) had to be 'Commerce',fortunately there excellent CoT in Bikar,North of India, having 1200-1500d to share,in the beginning its best cot ,imo. When I saved around 400+ducats ,I changed idea on 'Quest for NW'explored some islands in Indian ocean-Bourbon,Mauritius etc and South Africa -Cape ,Karoo,Roggweld.
Then I'd to change idea again to 'Colonial Ventures' to get some colonists.
Of course,if you have tiny country changes,'to get back to +3',in stability may take 6-8 years ,but the more provinces you have the more difficult it is to get back to max stability.
One thing I've learned though - with negative stability merchants'd be eaten down if you don't send them.
Despotic Monarchy has blastedly cheap Generals
1 to 3 in comparison with Feudal Monarchy.Even price for troops I think differs,
Not sure what led to troops getting cheaper.Maybe limit cap bigger on Feudal Monarchy something
So it would be like that
Despotic Monarchy:
Cheap Generals Explorers 17-18 Ducats only!
Troops are lesser and so they are more expansive to maintain.
Feudal Monarchy :
Expansive Generals and Explorers 55-60 Ducats
Troops are cheaper to upkeep.
