When you can handle the Chinese rebellions, the manpower you get from their regions is worth the trouble many times.
I once had a China that expanded into Europe by constantly taking Mongolian territories and colonizing them.

I believe I'm using historic lucky nations. This AI has no excuses for it's unacceptable behavior. It has been put on time out until it thinks about what it's done.

How's your AH game going? I played one back when Poach was in charge of the mod and it was a very fun game, though the AI isn't the great of an opponent I was able to raise slightly over a million men and beat the crap out of those dirty serbs within a week ..Russia on the otherhand, what a beast.
How well is the trench-warfare in the mod?

Back when I played it how it worked was that you could only build fortifications up to level 3, but you could build them pretty fast. Overall a pretty bland attempt at trench-warfare, but I know they were talking about simply making the max dig in level for units 30 days instead of 10, which in my opinion and most of the others would work better (you could build fortification up to 10 as in vanilla). That game still had plenty of kinks to work out, but it does paly very ww1, what with no tanks or planes for most of the game, it's an all out infantry slugfest, which in and of itself makes it pretty good trenchwarfare. Register on the Paradox forums and you can read a fantastic set of AAR's from the fine people here at TWC when they played a multiplayer game with it that explains it a lot.
EDIT: just had a look at the new mod and it looks like they've done a lot more to give the defender the bonuses. They have a little beta multiplayer going on that I think I might join just to see how it's shapping up.

To simulate trench warfare, they will need to tone down the offensive technology and raise the defensive. That was one of the reasons that WW1 was not much mobile on the western front. All sides were excellent in defensive technology, but none could do powerful offensives against those techs. Only way was to keep feeding more and more men in the frontline, until enemy is weary and tired and out of resources.
By the way, here is IMPERIVM ROMANVM!

They've given the defender major bonuses.
Nice Empire, but I can't stand this imposter "Holy" Empire sitting across the Rhine.
I like how you left Rum alive :S
