You can change the name of a colony when a colonist has arrived (that's how I do it anyway). In the dialogue that pops up (double?)click the name of the province and you can change it in the same way as you can change the name of regiments, armies etc ...

Yay! I can now give my Canadian and American colonies nice province names.
Now I have Nova Scotia, Niagara, Upper Canada, etc. Much better.

I was testing one of my mods when this happened:

Denmark and Sweden became my vassals after losing the war.
The warscore was only 30 to my favour but they both accepted vassalization!
Wtf? That never happens...
So now my empire triples in greatness after two peace offers for the same war.
Not that I'm complaining!

I've played some 30 years more so the status has changed a bit in the 1730'ies.
Dutch India and Dutch Indonesia have been connected and that last white spot in the middle of Thailand/Cambodia/Laos has been taken.
Furthermore the Philipines have been colonized and the people of Tibet forced into vasallage.
I fought Ming in some very bloody (for the chinese at least) wars. ATM I have 100.000 man on the Dutch/Ming border.
The coat of arms might intrigue you, but it so happens to be that I inherited both the Swedish and Norwegian thrones after having won them in two seperate wars of sucsession against France and Lithuania.
The flower of Orissa symbolises the Dutch colonial empire of India, known as the flower of the orange empire.
Sweden btw was ripped a part when I took over. Västergötland, Småland, Östergötland and another province had been taken by Denmark through the course of some three wars. I fought the Danes and retook these ancient Swedish provinces.

It's very easy to vassalize rather large nations in NA...like Russia when it has over 300 provinces.

Yes, definitely. but northern Sweden and Finland have provinces with hide, which are worth something like 20.1 gold in the market. Usually there is quite a good possibility of building a new trading center in Stockholm if Lubeck is overgrown (if it is worth over 400 gold).

It seems depending on how many total trading value your current provinces provide. If all your provinces provide more than 1000 for a single CoT, then it is very possible a new CoT would be opened in one of your provinces (but randomly). For some factions, the CoT would particularly open in particular areas (Normally, if your provinces in certain regions, for example, South America, provide more than 1000, a CoT would appear in on of your province in South America).

Ah okay, thanks; I guess the only reason I hadn't seen it before is that in the only campaign in which I expanded to the New World, I captured the Inca/Aztec/whoever COTs and used them instead
