Lord, help me. The Roman empire in my convert game is getting more scary by the day.



New Years Eve 1518 Anno Domini. I ended up becoming emperor, much to my dismay. Right now I'm just insulting electors so they don't vote for me next time, and openly letting the many heresies devour Catholic Europe from within. So far plentiful of them have converted and began started voting for each other this way. Which I find very lovely, since it means I can finish the historical feud between the lords of Brunswick and the Imperial kaisers by dismantling the Holy Roman Empire once and for all!

I really ought to make a event for that or something, if only for meta reasons alone.

Yup, the Spaniards obtained the Anatolian crown in one of their latter Crusades back in CK2.

It puzzles me too, they have(had?) cores on plenty of provinces, no reason I can see why they haven't conquered it yet.

As I had said many months ago, THIS would have happened if any Iberian dared cross my lands. Helping the Spaniards was one of the main reasons I could get my empire this big:





I was allied with Castille. They were facing a Jihad, so I decided to help them out without joining their war. At this time, I was the old and battered Eastern Roman Empire with nothing except their starting territories and Levant coastline.

I sent my 20,000 strong army to Iberian peninsula and quickly took a Muslim minor. Then the Andalusian Sultan died in battle against Castille, so the nation broke apart into many one province minors. I relentlessly took all of them before Castille could. And then I went on to conquer more Muslim states around the area. Suddenly I found myself owning half of Iberia. I converted it and used the manpower from the area to bolster my conquests in the east. And then Africa. And then the Italians and HRE. And then France. And finally Britain.

You still should secure the est of the lands at your side of Rhine and Danube. The new "grant independence" option should help you shape the borders better.

Or maybe you'd like to put the planned Elbe river border in instead.

I used the grant independence option to a great extent when conquering. But the house rule I used for this game was that I will conquer full duchies. The only exception is that sprawling long province in Morocco, my vassals keep conquering it but it makes my border look weird and was not a part of Roman Empire. So I keep giving it independence.

I'll try this one, as you were first. I've also heard that the Mongol one is very difficult and mostly relies on luck, reloads and more luck so I'm not really that fussed about doing it.

sooo...after a great success with Austria-Hungary i decided to try something completely different. Aztec. I wanted to get away from Europe for a while...
Year 1440. Start (as i noticed later,i had to start from 1359 in order to have better technologies when europeans come.... that was a big mistake..

so...anybody have an idea how to survive with primitive countries after europeans come? at least until it possible to westernize technologies...

Since you're playing vanilla and not MEIOU (Which I always play)

Try to get top adviser, get some tech, and wait till West comes to you. The hardest is holding your ground till you westernize. Get their WE high, do not lose your armies so that you recapture lost lands, scorch earth....and hope that don't bring doom stack and get white peace at best

I played as Aztecs two years ago. I defeated the Portuguese (who came first) and then the Spanish.

The key is to have a huge army. The Europeans simply cannot take so many Aztec warriors all at once. My stacks were almost always exceeding 60,000 even though it sucked up manpower. Another factor is to have as high-level ministers and generals as possible, especially ministers that replenish manpower.

And as Arbitrary Crusader said, go for a white peace.

In that game, I westernized 40 years after the end of my war with the Spanish when they colonized my neighbouring provinces. But then they got a casus belli against me just after I was trying to keep up with 1600s technology. They overran me within three months.

thank you guys. currently I am in Europe again with Byzantium, but after it I still wanna come back to South America.. or even Africa. I survived first attack of spanish with Aztec..and lost just few provinces, but after 20 years they attacked again and again... another thing, is it possible somehow to get colonists with Aztec? in that case it would be possible to make a reserve colony where it would be possible to move my capital in case europeans destroy my minor lands.. ?
