    Armenia Faction Overview

    Faction Description

Armenia has been populated since prehistoric times, and has been proposed as the site of the Biblical Garden of Eden. Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding the Biblical mountains of Ararat, upon which, as tradition states, Noah's Ark came to rest after the flood. Archaeologists continue to uncover evidence that Armenia and the Armenian Highlands were among the earliest sites of human civilization. From 6000 BC to 1000 BC, tools and trinkets of copper, bronze and iron were commonly produced in Armenia and traded in neighbouring lands where those metals were less abundant.

The territory of Armenia is also one of the candidates for the legendary Aratta, mentioned in Sumerian records. In the Bronze Age, several states flourished in the area of Greater Armenia, including the Hittite Empire (at the height of its power), Mitanni (South-Western historic Armenia) and Hayasa-Azzi (15th - 12th BC). In the Iron Age, the Indo-European Phrygians and Mushkis make their arrival in the Near East, and topple the Mitanni Kingdom. Then, the Nairi people (12th - 9th BC) and the Kingdom of Urartu (9th - 6th BC) successively establish their sovereignty over the Armenian Highland. Each of the aforementioned nations and tribes participated in the ethno-genesis of the Armenian people. Yerevan, the modern capital of Armenia, was founded in 782 BC by the Urartian king Argishti I.

Around 600 BC, the Kingdom of Armenia was established under the Orontid Dynasty, which existed under several local dynasties till AD 428. The kingdom reached its height between 95 - 66 BC under Tigranes the Great, becoming one of the most powerful kingdoms in west Asia of its time. Throughout its history, the kingdom of Armenia enjoyed periods of independence intermitted with periods of autonomy subject to contemporary empires. Armenia's strategic location between two continents has subjected it to invasions by many peoples, including the Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, Parthians and the Romans.

But currently, Armenia is subject to no one, and awaits a great King to bring the glory they deserve......

N.B. Colonists have no fighting purpose; they are a large unit that serve no military role. They are however, as the name suggests, perfect for moving populations from A to B.
The Colonial Governor also has no fighting purpose, but is a weak General unit, allowing you to properly govern cities without tying down your actual family members.

Very nice Tyr! Do you have any other faction previews? I am really interested in seeing GCS, Macedonia and Seleucids if you can post those as well at some point.
