I am asking about the underlying mechanics and not the animations.
non-Defensive formation: They will hold their shields angled high when targeted by missiles.
Defensive formation: They remain crouched behind their shields in front of them despite no contact and missiles.
Obviously, in the real world, you are more likely to get skewered by a parabolic projectile if you don't lift your shield. But in the Rome2/DEI world does this have an impact on missile hits and damage? BTW, I am using sub mods: Alternative Hoplite & Alternative Pike, and I am playing Rome and have not hit the first military reform yet.
Thanks.
