This is a hard question. A guess: Ostend?

    Good guess,
The siege of Ostend, with around 60.000 casualties on both sides, lasted for 3years. Contemporary people would compare it with the siege of Troy.

A group of local men formed a harrasment unit equipped with stilts to swiftly move through the dunes/creeks.
They had their successes but were unable to find fresh volunteers so the unit became understrength and therefore ineffective.

Lucky me. I guess this is my turn. I'll go with an easy one. In Principate what was the only direct tax to Roman citizens and what was the rate of the tax?

Wealth tax was a kind of sales tax which was a indirect tax. And, Roman citizens were exempt from poll tax. So, that's not correct.

By 167 B.C. the Roman government had so successfully enriched itself at the expense of its recently captured provinces and through revenues from its Spanish silver mines that it no longer needed to levy a tax against land owned by its citizens in Italy. That means it can't be the answer, because I want the direct tax that levied to Roman citizens universally. .

Urine tax was levied to people who needed to use urine (such as tanner), so it's a indirect tax.

Door tax was imposed in Republican times.

Mig el Pig got it right. The answer is inheritance tax (vicesima hereditatium et legatorum). It's a tax which every Roman citizen had to pay upon any inheritance or legacy left to him/her, with the exception of such as were left to a citizen by his nearest relatives. The rate was 5%.

    Quintus Sertorius

As I'm as sure of that answer as I can be, I'll be naughty and add a question. Sorry if it's against the rules.
Which siege of a city has indirectly given name to a colour, what colour is it, and why was it given that name?

    your correct Gabriella

and the siege your talking about is the siege of ostend, the colour is Isabella( a sort of yellow) and the reason it's called that way is because Isabella of spain declared she wouldn't change her undergarment until the city fell(the siege lasted 3years) so it became a strange kind of yellow/brown.
