So do you think of him as a successfull personality ??
He was a negative person in Byzantine history, he pulled empire into civil war in the worst possible moment and pretty much opened way for Serbian and Ottoman expansion. He was a grave-digger of Byzantine empire.
He used as many of his copies of part of ancient history in order to describe simila events
That was a fashion of the time, however a more negative aspect of his work is its apologetic and self-centered tone.

Well, he was certainly more memorable as an historian than as an emperor, that's for sure.

Merged with the history quiz sticky.

How could this quiz die? Come on, people! I'm going for a hard round.

    1. What warrior in the retinue of the first king of Norway was killed by porridge?
    2. How did lactose intolerance cause a diplomatic incidence around 1000 AD?
    3. What is the meaning behind these five kennings?
    -Flour of Frodi
    -Corpse cockoo
    -Harm's dew
    -Horse of Gunn
    -War-leek
    4. What difference between the Latin and Oscan languages closely mirrored the schism between two groups of related Celtic languages?
    5. Which two women opposed one of the most powerful Empires in the world for three years?

I would like to give it a stab at revitalizing the Quiz.

On a map my upper is lower and my lower is upper.
I'm long like a snake and bring food and water to my residents.
The rest of the land is practically inhospitable.
    I'm known world wide.
At one point 3 languages were used by my people, one written and two spoken.
Lastly, despite all the work done on my history by modern researchers and scientists... as well as the curious, many mysteries still surround my past.
    Who am I.

Oh lol I thought you meant more precisely, because it really sounded like you mean the Nile with it being like a snake and giving water to its residents.

My bad on the confusion, when I was writing it out I was thinking the Nile but it evolved into Egypt at some point.

    1) Gladiator

2)He had his soldiers write letters home which he then intercepted and used to see what his troops were thinking and who may be plotting against him.

3)Depending on whether you are referring to the Western or Eastern Empire, Julius Nepos or Romulus Augustus in the West (depends on if you actually count Romulus Augustus as an emperor since he was but a child) and in the East it would be Constantine XI
