Number 2 is correct, as far as I know.
Number one, looking for a different plane here. I was meant to ask for a two engine plane actually, forgot that part.
And yes, Leif was the first to land there, but there was one who sighted it about 50 years earlier.

    That was scary...Anyway

    1) What social campaign was launched by Mao Zedong in 1957 which "backfired" completely (whether he desired it or not)?

    2) What aerial maneuver is named after a WWI ace had a significant presence in the anime: Last Exile. Hint: he was German

    3) Who was the best Union spy in the American Civil War? Who was he assigned to protect?

    4) Who was allegedly shot down by Red Guard as he and his family were trying to flee to the Soviet Union?

Bonus Question (don't need this but I'll give anyone rep who gets it first)
    5) Regarded as one of Dicken's best AND worst books, what was name of the book where the famous quotation "Facts are alone wanted in life. Plant nothing else, and root out everything else"

    Good luck!

Sorry that's incorrect. Great Leap Forward was an economic policy, not social
    However FirstmanOntheMoon is correct.

    1) The Hundred Flowers Movement - Originally it was intended to open up to the criticism of the public for the first time in the Modern Chinese governmental history, but many protests against the Chinese Communist Party led to the eventual closure of the movement, although some argue that it was the intent from the beginning for Mao to take this action, as to make it seem like he was right and just or for other reasons.

    2) Immelman Turn - Honestly I didn't know this one, so thanks for the information, seems like a very interesting move when pefroemed properly, although in modern warfare I'm not sure how jet fighters would use it to the same effectiveness. I wonder, did the Anime guy use the stylized acrobatic one or the real one that Immelman used?

    3) Alan Pinkerton; Abraham Lincoln - It's interesting to note that the symbol for his agency as the all-seeing eye as well as the reputation they had as the greatest spy syndicate in the land at the time led to the use of the term "private eye".

    4) Lin Biao - This is more my area, I'm a Chinese history buff of a sort, although more classical. Allegedly is the key word here, because to this day from what I know, they still do not know for sure how the plane crashed that he was en route to China is, given that it was in range of either of the two countries or could have simply crashed due to complications in the air, and it is just a very fortunate coincidence for Mao since it stopped the pending coup, although that may or may not have happened as well give or take other factors.

    5) Hard Times - This was already said so I hope the above fellow gets the bonus, but I'll add that this is a very good read, and you can read the e-book or listen to the audio file(I believe?) at Project Gutenburg with this link: http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/d#a37

Thanks Ippius, alright here's mine(excuse my asian theme, tis my favorite history):

    1) Which Tibetan leader was thought to be assassinated by a Buddhist hermit?

    2) Who was known as "the British Boelcke"?

    3) What famous Mongol tactician was carried in a cart to battle because he was of such value?

    4) What is currently believed to be the oldest city on Earth? Where is it located? And what is the English translation of it's name? (Need 3 answers, rather than do a ton I'll just make this a compound one)

    ***Bonus Questions***
If you get either of these right you can get free rep/kudos, but they aren't required.(not sure if I personally can rep people)

    - What was the name of the administrator expelled upon the founding of the Guangxi Revolutionary Military Government?

    - Which British soldier altered history in the Battle of Marcoing, and what was it he did?

    All the Best,
