Alright, first and foremost, I have not read this entire beast of a thread, so try not to eviscerate me for posting a question already asked (if it happens). Here we go, four, nice and easy questions:

    (1) Which Roman emperor, largely considered a puppet emperor and usurper, represented the last opportunity for the pagans to oppose the christianization of the Empire? A little extra trivia for you, he also wore a beard, something unpopular at the time in Rome.

    (2) The British army stopped its policy of selling commissions to wealthy men during which war (the war is good enough, but for bonus points, which battle influenced this)?

    (3) Who was the first commander of the first American Civil War regiment made up almost entirely of all African-American soldiers?

And finally, a NON-military question (and the easiest question, I might add):
    (4) Who wrote Adonais, and for whom did he/she write it?

Close, good sirs, but not quite.

For the first question, a valuable hint is Theodosius. The second question, however, is a bit more challenging than I had thought it to be. Quite delightful, if I do say so myself!

    Correct, Blackadder!

    (1) Which Roman emperor, largely considered a puppet emperor and usurper, represented the last opportunity for the pagans to oppose the christianization of the Empire? A little extra trivia for you, he also wore a beard, something unpopular at the time in Rome.
Answer: Flavius Eugenius, usurper to the throne, died in battle against Theodosius I in 394 AD.

    (2) The British army stopped its policy of selling commissions to wealthy men during which war (the war is good enough, but for bonus points, which battle influenced this)?
Answer: The Brits abolished the sale of commissions during the Crimean War, due to the glaring inefficiencies of the commaders at the Battle of Balaklava (known mostly for the Charge of the Light Brigade).

    (3) Who was the first commander of the first American Civil War regiment made up almost entirely of all African-American soldiers?
Answer: Thomas Higginson of the 1st South Carolina Volunteers; it is a common mistake that the 54th Massachussets was the first such regiment under the leadership of Robert Gould Shaw.

And finally, a NON-military question (and the easiest question, I might add):
    (4) Who wrote Adonais, and for whom did he/she write it?
ANSWER: P.B. Shelley wrote the poem for his good friend John Keats; an additional bit of trivia, a book of Keats' poetry was found on Shelley's body when he was washed ashore.

    Blackadder, it is your turn

    1. Who was the first head of state to be killed by a pistol shot? (easy)

    2. Who was the highest sniper scorer in Stalingrad? (hint: most famous does not equal best) NB. A code name or nickname will do.

    4. What was the Roman name for the Black Sea (easy)?

    5. What is the Roman poetic form of "Italy?" (ok...)

    Goodluck!
