Unplayable massive lag on campaign map

Reinstalled the mod (I have Rome Total War Gold on Steam) and started my first campaign. There's no lag at all when clicking on the various menus, and no lag in the loading screen before the campaign map with the historical quotes on it. But the lag on the campaign screen is huge, it took me like 5 minutes to perfectly position my mouse over my settlement (Sweboz) in order to click on it to trigger the Advisor with the script, and another few minutes to move my mouse over the Show Me How button, also with hitting the End Turn button. Weirdly there's no lag when it comes to the AI taking its turns though. Vanilla has no lag.

Sounds like a problem with your video card. Have you tried changing the resolution? Also, are you running Steam or disc version?
