    Default Campaign terrain

I've been working on the campaign map for a while and now I have begun modifying the terrain and textures.

What I need from the community is to point out all the "very wierd" terrain places on the XGM battle map and also point out the location on the campaign map.

So far some of greece and italy has been completely changed, it now looks a hell lot more realistic and is surely more fun to play.
I will later post some screenshots after i've finished some landscape items and after I have managed to change the terrain texturing to something more... realistic, than it now is.
P.S. Rome will never be the same....

Great idea! I have been noticing some odd terrain spots myself. I'll keep an eye out for you

One of the wierdest places was the giant hill right next to athens, a giant hill yet again next to thermon (or croton? which one was it, the toe of the italian boot).
And mostly the mountainous areas, where some of the mountains reach to the battlefield allowing the player to exploit 60+ degree slopes (yikes!).

Glad to hear that's been refined. It always looked like I was fighting in the skate parks of the titans around that area.

Nooo don't take the mountains!! Sofia has a mountain just outside of it and it's steep it's a great fun to let loose the siege tower like a slide when besieging Athens
now i have a question is there some tree mod that makes the trees a little smaller, caus right now i hate playing as germania, i can't see a thing.... i know about Teutoberg, but not all battles were fought among 100 meter trees...

Kara Kolyo: It's just not real to have that steep mountains with units acctually able to walk up them. And for your delight, all the trees and other vegetation have been edited, showing a bigger variety of trees, together making the campaign map look a lot more realistic. Also the percentage of the general landscape features has been increased (thus adding even more variety to the campaign map).

About time! I'm tired of the same six battlefields over and over.

about the hills was a joke, the trees weren't So Redfox adding more trees means that some of them will be smaller, or its just eyecandy, since i put vegetation on very low settings....? my major problem is that in most mods the trees are as huge as in vanilla and i'm looking for a MTW1 experience - lots of trees, but you can see what happens

As far as I know they should be reasonably smaller than before, it was just a bunch of freakishly large trees...
Though in my opinion it adds a little bit of realism as you can't often see the enemy. Leading to better ambushes and the like.

Hey, can you make every battle that occurs near the coast, to look something like the battle of Thermopylae? THAT WOULD HAVE OOOOOOOOOOOOOWNED xD

First I have to learn how to export terrain without freezing 3ds max, or XGM.
Any tutorials would be quite welcome

(but yeah, I can make several places where to fill the coastline with custom landmarks like I did for the thermopylae)
For some reason when I have units positioned at the thermopylae, the enemy will not attack my forces, maybe because I am standing on a landmark (like wonders and such).

Leaving that aside for a moment, is there anyone with really wierd campaign pics? (dangerously steep, neckbreaking slopes for the player to exploit)

Phalanx_15: It won't be hard to make, just chamfer and move.
Only problem here might be that the units might not be able to cross the wall, so I can't make it too high. Thanks for the vid though, quite awesome-looking.

This is half hours work so far, I know i'm a bit slow at modeling, but it should look really nice in the end. After all, I have to model the entire battlefield, including the pathway to flank the passage

Any comments, suggestions or ideas so far?

How are you going to make the AI flank you via the goat pass? That will be a tough one or what, hehe

Pure luck mb? There's a really nifty thing called 'pathfinding', basically, I am modeling a settlement for the campaign map, that means I can add all sorts of fun stuff to it. In the end though, it should function like any other map and if that's not enough, I believe you can play XGM online...

It's beginning to look more like the real thing...

Going to be a tough one to pull off from here, now I have to create that narrow passage and the cliffs to the left, not to even mention the seaside! maybe i'll skip that?...

The main priority is a narrow pass with surrounding cliffs like the screenie and your magnificent own one
But if you want extra credit and more eye candy, i recommend that you add the ocean.

Thank you, finally someone makes ACCURATE maps
