    Default SPORE 's discussion thread

Well, as most of us know, Will Wright is making his new game; SPORE ( http://www.spore.com/ ) and most of us can't wait to get it!

But there is something, is the release 2nd half of the year, or will it be 2nd/3rd of march?

I can't see it being released until near the end of the year.

I hope it's good, but I get the feeling that he might be making it too big, covering too many genre's of games, watering down the whole game.

There's alot of hype to it, and it's very unlikely it will live up to the hype. It will be good nonetheless, I'm sure of that, and I still can't wait for it.

But it's the hugest game ever being made, and to this game atleast, the huger the better...more planets, more stars, more flexibility.

But hey if its taking long then it will be better than if released this march.

It looks interesting, I really like how the creatures evolve through stages of civilization, but it just seems like it's going to be pointless. Sure it's a sandbox, but for what? Once you get to the space age it seems that all you can do is fly around the universe either decimating a less advanced civilization or making new colonies. Sure that sounds fun... for a while, but it also seems completely pointless. Unless there's something to do besides that, then I'm not planning on getting it.

I haven't kept up-to-date with Spore, and I only watched the oldest trailers available for it.

Has a lot changed? I remember how utterly AWESOME the trailers made the game out to be, but I've been slowly lowering my expectations to escape the possible disappointment I might get upon release (not that Will Wright ever disappoints, but you never know).

The game is amazing! You have to see the planets! I mean like there are infinite civilizations out there, and you can discover them...I always wished for a game like this and finally it's here. I am definitely going to buy this game.
Oh and did you see the creature maker thing (were you make your creatures looks) it has countless things you can do, if you make the leg bendy by hand, the leg will have its own animation generated right away...it really does have countless possibilities!
Hey maybe Will Wright will do a game were you are God and the universe is yours (would be cool) and you create planets and listen to prayers from civilizations and send prophets down on them .

I don't think there has been any official word on the specs, but from what I've seen I doubt they'll be that much higher than what you need to run a game like Oblivion.

I'm going to make Space Whales.

But I am not confident that Spore will even see a 2007 release. Winter, at the very, very earliest.

What's the point of any game? You're not accomplishing anything by playing them, and I'd much rather play a sandbox game where I can make up my own story and do what I want rather than be held on a leash to go in only one way to play through a crappy story. I can't wait for this game, I just hope the editors are as free as they've been making them out to be.

I heard a rumer not so long ago, a month or 2 may be, that the specs on this game should not be much more thant he Sims 2. I don't know how much that is going to hold true though.

The exact specs aren't known, but I think that 'loads of ram' isn't even necessary.. The game uses a 'procedural' system for everything: creatures, buildings, vehicles, planets and textures. Essentially, that means that every single object in the game can be reduced to several kilobytes (yes, as in 'smaller than a megabyte'). Compared to the megabytes that buildings for Simcity 4 and objects for The Sims and The Sims 2, that's progress I say!

That means that you'll be able to store plenty of things in a matter of seconds on your hard-drive and it'll probably mean that you'll be able to load things pretty quickly, even on a mediocre system..

Nevertheless, that's all speculation ofcourse, so we'll have to wait until the game reaches it's release date before we know anything for sure. I for one can't wait..

I've been keeping an eye on this game since I first heard about it in 2005 and the suspense is still killing me! (Even though it's been a bit quiet lately)

They don't give a lot if info. It seems to me that Wright is on tour constantly, always reiterating his advertisement messages.

It's a bit too cartoony for my tastes. It looks fun though

Definitely a fear of mine. There's a great sense of scale here, but from the demonstrations and trailers, it seemed that certain stages were rushed. The cellular stage, for example--not that it would be the most exciting, but why include a friggin cellular stage unless it will play a vital role in the course of the game? Many features in this game scream at me as statements of 'oh yes, we went there', rather than 'imagine how much influence this will have on the variety of the game'.

Must be a marketing scheme: Gradually reveal new info as the release date draws closer...

I would still like to know if ape-like humanoids can be created, and if these spaceships can act as more than scouting vessels and mini death stars (can you at least transport armies to other planets?)
