Thread: Is it possible...

  1. #1

    Default Is it possible...

... to make all battles in campaign be on flat ground with no trees, or at least no big forests?

I found playing on grassy flatland makes the game run a LOT smoother than on a normal map. Besides, I dont like fighting on mountaintops..

    It's possible.

You must create a custom_location.txt file in your campaign folder (I don't remember the exact name), and then link every pixels of your map to the grassy land map (the same like custom battles one). See the file in the italian campaign in RTW, or maybe the norman campaign folder of M2TW. Maps are .wfc files I think.

Ok I found this in the sons of mars campaign in RTW:
    custom_tiles_db.txt

    that contained this:
    ;tarquinii 8 57 map.wfc

So I assume I make a file like that in my imperial campaign folder named custom_locations.txt, copy map.wfc from grassy plain folder into the imperial campaign folder, and have it contain this:

    1 1 map.wfc
    1 2 map.wfc
    1 3 map.wfc
    1 4 map.wfc
    1 5 map.wfc
    1 6 map.wfc

etc... until the whole map is linked to that?

Yup. But you would have the same map for every single battle you fought. Even bridge battles.

That would be nice. I am sick of the big mountains and stuff everywhere anyway. Would this also mean that even when fighting in winter, the map would still be the green grassy flatland? Or is that hoping too much.

Also, It would be nice to know the dimensions of the campaign map.

    Ok is the map 285x189?
Thats the size of the descr regions.

And hopefully this wont cause CTD on siege battles because grassy flatland cant have a settlement on it?

    And in
1 1 map.wfc I need to know which dimension corresponds to which number if anyone knows that.

Well.. if only there was a simpler way of making that custom locations file. I dont want to spend hours on it, and then have it all wasted when I play a mod that has a different map.

I have made the file, here is a sample so you know what it looks like

    46 39 map.wfc
    46 40 map.wfc
    46 41 map.wfc
    46 42 map.wfc
    46 43 map.wfc

    it goes to 285x189

I have this file saved in my imperial_campaign folder as custom_location.txt and custom_tiles_db.txt

I have map.wfc that I copied from the grassy flatland folder in 3 places, it is in the imperial campaign folder, and two subfolders; custom_location and custom_tiles

I start a new campaign in LTC, get into a battle, and its still not grassy flatland, it uses whatever normal map it would use.

    Did I do something wrong?

Does anyone have any how to get this to work?

    The Rome one was:
    ;tarquinii 8 57 map.wfc

Should I put ;tarquinii at the beginning of each line?

Well the ; infront of the line means its commented it out, so remove the ;.

well would it supposedly work if I put tarquinii in front of each line? It doesnt exactly make sense that that should do anything. Thats the real question I have.

Remove the tarquinni part form the line and then see if it works.

I have this file saved in my imperial_campaign folder as custom_location.txt and custom_tiles_db.txt
It doesn't go in imperial_campaign folder, it goes in data folder i think

and the entries look like this:

    Code:
    custom_location River Po
    {
    	location 131	121
    	image data/menu/battlefield_pics/river_po.tga
    	sett_locked yes
    	climate mediterranean
    	summer no
    }
    EDIT: That's the custom_locations.txt, I haven't seen the other file in mt2w

Entries in custom_tiles_db.txt look like this (well at least in the E3 demo folder):

    Angers_Province 104 129 map.wfc clear midday

Edit: And map.wfc should be in a custom_tiles subfolder in the imperial_campaign folder I guess
By the way, custom_locations.txt holds the locations for custom battles.
