Default FATW Dominion of Men Version 3.4 is almost ready for release

Just a quite news item to let anyone stopping by here that the next (and almost certainly final) version of the mod is just about ready for release. It is mostly bug fixes and balance but there are also one or two new surprises that I've found time to implement as well. Keep an eye out for the release post soon!

If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance

I have a question: is there a way to fight trolls on the battlefield without experiencing game malfunction?

This post was recommended for Troll problems:

For a quick summary of that thread, try the following:

We recommend running the mod in 16 bit graphics mode, which resolves this issue for some people. If that doesn't work, try the following: in descr_model_battle.txt (found in bi/fatw/data), find the entry for 4a_orc_troll and 4a_orc_ologhai. In the model_sprite line, change 60.0 to 0.1 for both entries. As always, make a backup of the file before modifying it.

How do I run the mod in 16 bit graphics mode?

Just change it in the graphics settings menu.

@NOOO : If the option is not coming up in-game you can directly edit your preferences document.

@webba84 : Are we expecting the Troll issue to no longer be a thing after the 3.4 release?

@Wambat, Unfortunately it is not possible to fix it completely unless we change the unit type to infantry, which means they won't be able to bash down gates, and will use ladders, and a host of other unwanted effects.

If you use the sprite fix, however, it almost completely removes the chances of this occurring, which is going to be about the best we can manage.

We have managed to fix every other known bug in 3.3 though.

So, considering this may be the one problem that will never go away, how about we make a sticky for how to address this problem to make it easy for folks to find going forward?
