    Default Maegor Holdfast

Maegor's Holdfast is a massive square fortress inside the heart of the Red Keep in King's Landing. Named after King Maegor I Targaryen, it is a castle-within-a-castle and is the strongest place in the Red Keep.

The holdfast lies behind walls twelve feet thick. A dry moat lined with a bed of formidable iron spikes surrounds it, with a drawbridge spanning the moat. The only way in or out of Maegor's is across the drawbridge. A knight of the Kingsguard is always posted at its far end. The royal apartments are located in Maegor's Holdfast. The king's bedchamber has twin hearths. The Queen's Ballroom within Maegor's Holdfast is much smaller than the Great Hall of the Red Keep or the Small Hall of the Tower of the Hand. However, the graceful ballroom can still seat one hundred.

Although I trust Clubfoot and his companions to some degree, I do not trust the walls. Little spiders are sweet and nice, as they can't survive for long on water, but I hate these pidgeons, who are everywhere, into the courts of the city, while observing everything, before they fly away towards the warm lair of Dragonstone to gossip with the crow, sitting horseback on her dragon! Pah!
And even if it's just the Rowan's family recipe for excellent cheese, I sayeth nay, the lady shalt not has't t!"

Eventually they would arrive at the Holdfast, where the Dowager Queen would search a quiet room for the two, advicing her Kingsguard to guard the door, once it was found. Whether it would end in gossip or not wasn't Alicent's concern at all. People already talked about an affair between her and Daemon - if they now would presume her to bed a Rowan boy, it couldn't make the list of potential suitors worse.
"So, speak freely what would be the matter regarding your family", she inquired after a while.

Queen mother, I come to tell you that my father, several other Lords, and Lady Tyrell herself, met with Rhaenys Targaryen. More than that, they conspired against the crown. It is with a heavy heart that I speak this truth. I fought with my father when he told me the details of the meeting. They offered a hand in marriage, one of the next generation. My father believes Rhaenys cause to be just. But he is mistaken. There are quiet plans about stopping House Hightower from interfering in the war.

Maces eyes were ernest. His voice measured and concern put on. As he spoke, he thought about his goal, and his truth, in order to keep his eyes and voice sincere.

The Queen Dowager looked up, somewhat irritated, before she had to smile.
"If there are plans to be made, then your Lord father or Lady Tyrell have to hurry up, should your fears be true", Alicent replied stoic, although amused, "Lord Ormund should arrive in due time to help his grace stop the rebell's march upon the capital, Ser Rowan, so it will be a mystery how anyone will attempt to stop an army, which noone will stop. Unless banners in the Reach are raised now."
Eventually she stood up, looking outside of the window. If the most recent news are true, it wouldn't take long for them to arrive - after all they were just able to utilize the Roseroad.
"Other than that I'll leave it to Lady Tyrell keeping her word, no matter if she is neutral or on our side. I don't care how many swords we need to put down Rhaenyra's revolt, she will only have to fear me, if she dares to attack Oldtown or my children and their offspring - I might not be a dragon, but anyone, who opposes my family will wish I would be just a dragon. Other than that our houses share mutual interests.
Would that be all for now?"

I say in earnest, there is not truth to neutrality in the Tyrell’s. There is only self interest. Her and my father plan to raise for the Blacks. Should you decide to wait for Lady Tyrell and the Reach to make their intentions known, I fear for your cause.

Mace said sourly. If Tyrell and Rowan declares Black, the Hightowers army would not match the might of the Reach. If House Hightower has no care for that risk, not that which his father could pose, then he could do no more than warn.

At the suggestion of Prince Daeron, Queen Helaena, and her three children, along with their dragons and Daeron's newly minted wife, Brienne Baratheon, depart King's Landing for Hightower, with an escort of 250 cavalry, a mixture of heavy knights and light horses.

"And then what?", the Queen Dowager replied relaxed, somewhat stern, "First of all, what is Lady Tyrell supposed to do? Sack Oldtown for the sake of us honoring our agreement with the King? Bribe us with my squiring nephew at Highgarden?
If we would speak about Rhaenyra, I would certainly believe that, but this is a conflict over the reign of Westeros, not a territorial war as some dim-witted Lord would think.
But we are men and women of the Reach, both you, me, Lady Tyrell, your Lord father - and we all know that there is no honor in taking a barely protected city, when you can face our army straight ahead in King's Landing, if anyone wishes to intercept.
If Lady Tyrell really chooses poorly as you want suggest to me, I'll await her declaration. I'm an old woman, I can't change that. But if we cut off the snake's head at Dragonstone with the assembled Hightower army, then I can change things easily. And then the whole debate is off the table. "

I dare not speak toward the motives of the Tyrells. Nor do I speak on the motives of my father. I bring you these words of caution in hopes to help our true King. I say that you not change her declaration but stay ahead of it. I tell you now that my father is also declaring for the Blacks and while the Tyrells alone might be a task, with my father they will be a thorn like no other. Put down my father’s rebellious ideas as a threat to the crown. Install my Lord brother Gerold in his stead and with Hightower and Rowan together, Tyrell has no choice but to concede. Robert Rowan is technically heir but so are his words and he is a mere lap dog to my father. A meek one at that.

Mace urged. He could only hope

She sighed, taking it to notice.
"I will write Lady Tyrell, that you have urged me to inspect this case at hand, although you should have told her, not me", Alicent remarked after some thought, "The King along with the Lord Hand shall know of your warning and will see what can be done. Other than that I can't help you further as the matters regarding your family are sadly not of my concern. Right now I have to worry about my children's safety every day - and as you can see, we have at the moment far larger problems in front of us, namely in the form of dragons.
So even if I would promise you help right now, Ser Rowan, no matter the noble intentions and no matter what investigations would proof, we need to solve this problem here first before we can adress matters of rightful inheritance."

Again Celestial Queen Mother, they conspire together and with Rhaenys Targaryen. As she rode in on her dragon. I have said nothing to you that is unknown to Lady Tyrell.

"I will consider this as well, yes", the Queen Dowager replied friendly, before showing that enough talk was done, "However, I thank you for your insight, Ser Mace. I assume you wish to take quarters here in King's Landing for the night, given the circumstances within the Reach? "

Just for the night, then I leave back to the Reach. It is not hostile to me, though should my father find out that I revealed their intentions it may not go well. But me and my father have always,..understood each other.
