Can strategy map tooltips be turned off?

Hi

Thus far the handful of posts that I have found which address this question either say, 'no you cannot turn off the cursor's tooltips', or, 'you have to edit a file using some fancy editor to get rid of them'.

I genuinely find this hard to believe. You can turn off the mouse pointer's tooltips in Medieval 1. Why wouldn't you be able to do the same in its more modern/recent sequel?

And how many times do you have to be reminded what roads do FFS!?

So, my questions:

1) Can the mouse cursor's tooltips be turned off on the campaign map in the vanilla game?

2) If no, is there a mod that gets rid of this (irritating to me) feature?

Find your manual and go through the key shortcuts.
If it isn't there, you won't find it elsewhere.
And it is quite possible that in M2TW it is hardcoded.
The games do use different engines.

you can edit a .txt file according to this and just replace the default description writing with a space. So it'll be smaller mini-box/less annoying. Read post 14.

BIG thanks Losthief. You have prevented me from giving up on Med2 and returning somewhat shamefacedly to Med1. (I must have, best guess, 5000 hours on that old warhorse. Still love it.)

Stupidly, I had actually found the post in question on the Org but gave up when the conversation went on about editing a string.bin file. D'oh!

Anyway to turn OFF tooltips in the STRAT map?
"I edited the [tooltips].txt version counterpart. I replaced all the annoying tooltip popups with a space. Left many of the tool tips I don't mind. Now the pop-up is just a tiny square I don't even get bothered by."

Pedantic VGB note: ALWAYS make a copy of any file before making changes.

Off-topic postscript
I have fond memories of The Org. But the site has experienced declining popularity for some years now. In its heyday it was a great forum. I do hope it isn't taken offline.
