I enjoyed the first two films, it had the light touch of Indiana Jones without the racism of the second one, or the appalling fourth one. I find Jet Li is a boring actor, and seems to curse films I see him in, so the third Mummy was pretty crappy for me. I can't watch Tom Cruise anymore.

I seem to recall odd bits of accuracy: in the first one the pyramids were slightly battered, which seemed correct. In the second one when they show the rise of the Scorpion King there were no pyramids, must have been a real battle with the producers on that one (historian: "see he's predynastic, so no pyramids, geddit?" producer: "...but its Egypt, its gotta have pyramids: people will think its Ali Baba otherwise!" Director: "OK there's a pyramid, but its a secret pyramid!").

I find Netflix is great for bad, yet entertaining movies. Netflix knows this.

It just sets the tone for the entire movie, with its outrageous plot, hammy acting, and poor understanding of Egyptian burial practices and curses. It has some memorable characters, though, and a lot of decent humor. The CGI is okay for 1999, although in various parts not as good as Jurassic Park, which came out six years earlier. Overall the production values, costumes, and settings were taken very seriously at least; you can tell a lot of work and funding went into this film. I will say this: it's certainly better than any of the sequels that have come out since, including the latest one with Tom Cruise (although I won't crap on that movie as much as professional film critics have, since I watched it and thought it was okay, just nothing special).
That movie is a goddamn masterpiece. I will not stand by and let you slander it. I, sir, challenge you to a duel.
