This is one of the few mods that actually portrays Hoplite warfare very well.

Nice words from you. I agree that hoplite warfare is absolutely well-depicted in this mod.

The sword issue is indeed a rather important one, but it was a design choice. Due to a system flaw (the fact that men are constantly switching to their secondary weapon when fighting for a long time), hoplites with a back-up sword would have been fighting with the sowrd itself most of the time. So the decision was to remove the secondary weapon from hoplites, so that their behaviour in battle would've been historically accurate - i.e., with dory and aspis.

Hoplites are already really hard to use effectively in multiplayer, with a sword they'd be even more abysmal
