    Default Joker (2019)

There's a brand new Joker in town, Joaquin Phoenix. These days they are filming for the eponymous movie that's going to be released on October 4 2019, an origin movie placed outside of the DC Extended Universe. Apparently, Joaquin's Joker is a ''failed stand-up comedian disregarded by society who is driven insane and becomes a psychopathic criminal mastermind''. Joaquin Phoenix is a solid performer, so hopefully this movie will be worthwhile.

His origin story is pretty much on the lines of the Killing Joke comic, by Alan Moore.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I didn't liked the previously released image of him in the makeup , but here, we get the full picture, his posture act and all that. It seems nice. ( better then Leto anyway)

Joaquin is a great actor though, so i expect a good performance anyway.

To be honest, his general appearance reminds me of Ledger's Joker, with the longer hair and all that. I was hoping to see a character design like the one above, which would allow Phoenix more freedom for facial expressions.

I'll watch it out of curiosity...plus Phoenix is amazing in pretty much everything he touches.

However...I have no ing idea what DC is doing. I wish he had been the Joker we had gotten in SS because Leto was a let down (though that was more to do with the creative decisions made by the team I think)

DC has clearly failed at their cinematic universe, I think the best course of action now is to attempt the other comic staple, and create a bunch of one off, tonally distinct films with their characters. It's a good choice to make, and Joaquin Phoenix is a good actor so there.

That said, Infinity War part II is the end of my investment in the MCU and superheroes as a whole. I've got the burnout.

So I've always been more Marvel than DC but my sister is more DC. She has more of the DC graphic novels than I can even begin to imagine.

It is apparently a controversial opinion (god knows why) but both she and I believe the Chris Nolan movies were terrible. They were great movies but just not Batman. They changed so much of the core Batman source material that I just can't understand why everyone hated the Leto Joker.
The way I feel about the Nolan trilogy is all of it was great but it wasn't Batman. Heath Ledger was an amazing villain but not a particularly special Joker. Tom Hardy was an amazing villain but a TERRIBLE Bane. Christian Bale was a good Batman but I wasn't really feeling him as a Bruce Wayne. Michael Cain was a terrible Alfred.
The whole trilogy is full of amazing actors cast for the wrong roles. The only one I really thought nailed their role was Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow!

According to my sister, the Jared Leto Joker is an amalgamation of two different Jokers from two different graphic novels.
Personally, it wouldn't have been my first choice and I would probably have gone with Joaquin from the start but the damage is done now and tbh I think if DC start chucking out spin-offs or changing actors in the cinematic universe, then they'll NEVER compete with Marvel.
Marvel planned their cinematic universe so perfectly, nearly a decade in advance and IT WORKED.

Now other than saying "I didn't mind him" I won't defend the Leto Joker any more but I WILL defend Affleck Batman. I don't know what people hated so much about him? Ben Affleck is a great actor (now) and a great writer. I believe this is also the first time that an actual comic book nerd who loves the character has actually been able to play Batman and people just bullied the poor guy over it. I was really looking forward to The Batman and it has probably been ruined now because Affleck is no longer writing/directing it and he's probably going to pull out of playing the role. Batman is essentially the most important part of the Justice League so I don't see any future Justice League movies unless they change the actor but it's unlikely they'll find someone who considered the role as much of a passion project.
I feel like Aquaman will probably not do as well as it could, we won't get a Flash movie, the Green Lantern Corps movie probably won't go ahead and unless the Shazam movie does amazing, we won't get a Black Adam movie.

I'm actually digging this take on The Joker so far. DC has had more misses than hits though, so my reaction here is the same as my reaction to Shazam, cautious optimism.

I love whackim bottom as everyone should, but can’t think of a movie he stared in that’s been a big hit. Not since Gladiator, and he wasn’t the lead. He’s the current king of low budget off key films, and should probably stick to that. I hope this is great, but I doubt it will stand up to Ledger.
