Default Microsoft visual c++ runtime error

Hello. I am having a very specific issue in which I can not find an answer over the internet or the forums. When attempting siege battles with large walls I get a runtime error that reads as follows

    program/steamapps/common/medieval 2 total war .exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way please contact the applications support team for more information.

Now sometimes this error occurs and sometimes it does not. I will say that it is happening a lot more lately, and it definitely happens when defending my city Caernarvon. I also notice that the crash always happens when I highlight the wall to the immediate left of the main gate, attempt to select a unit that's on the wall immediately left of the gate, attempt to move a unit at the wall or attack the wall.

Also, my error log says that this is an unspecified error and will now exit.

So I have no idea how to handle this all help is appreciated.

bafan - what unit sizes are you using ?

Have you tried running the game fresh and loading the battle as the first thing you do ?

You might be running into memory management issues.

Have you applied the bug fix compilation ?
