With approval given by Richard, his liege in exile, Walter Giffard comes to the court of King Philip, the ruler of the Frankish domains. As he rode to the walls of Ile de France, Walter tried to recall what Mortain had done, but did not recall if he ever visited the King of France. Back then, Philip was more of an ally to Edgar. Yet now, word was going around of the tense relationship. If the Frankish King's support could be gained, all the better for Richard's cause.
