Default Estates of Perceval of Bamburgh

In the wake of Osulf of Northumbria's sudden death, Richard Perceval, heir to the Earl of Nottingham and husband to Osulf's former daughter-in-law Gunhild Haroldsdohter, found himself replacing the former as Earl of Northumbria on account of his stepson (Osulf's grandson) Harold being too young to lead the Earldom's army into battle. Considering the King gave him this position of power right at the dawn of a Danish invasion, Richard will find his battlefield skills - previously flexed at the Wye and the Meres - facing their most dire test yet.

    Will of Richard Perceval
In the event that I should pass before my time...

...to my stepson Harold Maldredson, son of my wife Gunhild and her first husband, I bequeath my rights to the Earldom of Northumbria and a quarter of my treasury, and pray that our King allows him to ascend to this station with his mother as custodian and regent...

...to my son Richard I bequeath my rights to my father's Earldom of Nottingham and a quarter of my treasury...

...to my wife Gunhild I bequeath the Honor of Westmoreland as Osulf of Northumbria once did, that they may serve as her dower lands in perpetuity...

...to my daughters Alice and Mary I bequeath a quarter of my treasury each...

    Given at York, 1076.
