Thread: Sweboz Let's Play!!!

    Default Sweboz Let's Play!!!

Hi guys. Long time Total War player and long time EB Fan Boy. First off, a huge shout out to the whole team for the countless hours and years of work you have put in to this mod and keeping it alive where most other Rome mods have died out. This mod is the sole reason I continue to play the original RTW despite all the new TW titles being released today.

Earlier this year I started doing youtube, and after much training, software testing ect ect, I've just launched my new gaming channel. What better way to launch it then with an EB let's play campaign. Sorry if I'm breaking any rules, but too excited. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you guys think. Cheers DUG

So where to expand next. East which will ultimately bring me into confrontation with the Getai and Sarmations. South which will bring us into confrontation with the Romans and Epirotes. Or west which will bring confrontation with the Arverni and Aedui? Let me know which way you guys think we should expand...

I think you should expand westward
Btw, what's your computer specs? I'm getting trouble playing RTW mods on win 10, battle load CTDs too often

When I played EB 1.2 + fixes as the Sweboz(h/h) I left the West till a bit later but made an uneasy peace with the Arverni(I demanded 1000 mnai they refused so I gave free) and Aedui(I demanded 1000 mnai and they paid) I captured all the Gawjam's first of all(you need a fleet for Gotanoz because of pirates) but left Bastarnoz till late on (it was a ing nightmare after I captured it). Every non-Gawjam I captured I made them vassels and recruited Mercenary General or Celtic Lesser King for governors asap so I could move my army on quicker and this prevented public order problems in most cases. I captured Eburodunum then Carrodunum which afterwards the rebels regularly attack trying to win it back, similar for Gintaras Ostan after a while. If you expand beyond The Danube and/or The Carpathian Mountains you will probably find that Ak Ink has already been taken by the Getai, you will come under severe attacks from Rebels and/or Getics if you take it, also Macedon who expand North fairly quickly become a threat too and eventually the Romans..

The Sweboz are brilliant fun to play imo but you have to keep moving and conquering, also acknowledge that as barbarians your settlement level never goes higher than Large Town so you have to manage your economy diligently by building farms, river ports, ports and mines when you can afford them, build Holy Stones of Nerthuz in coastal Towns, don't worry too much about roads until you're ready or maybe where you have a port with trader, your enemies can use them to travel quicker just as you do. Strategically determine your major troop centres, build barracks, blacksmiths for upgrades to weapons etc with field of games and Holy Stones of Deiwoz(iirc) for XP bonuses, you're also limited with your military, make use of your Warlords for morale boost, retrain as much as you can so as not to lose the xp your troops have gained, there are battles you will need to win against the odds to succeed, thanks for the LP, have fun and good luck, I'll be following your progress

    Processor is Intel Core i7 - 3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
    Installed Memory is 8.0GB RAM
    64 BIT Operating system
    Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
Graphics card is Nvidia GeForce GTX 650

As you can see my set up is a slightly older build. Leaving the country and moving over seas at the end of the year so no point upgrading at the moment. IIRC, RTW when first released was still compatible with windows XP. So it might be the newer operating system that is causing crashes. Also I'm no expert, but if I recall. From windows 8 on wards there are tonnes of built in security protocols in windows that need to be manually adjusted or it affects a lot of older programs and software. The other option is try a 100% clean install of RTW. Apart from the odd crash here and there, EB is one of the most stable RTW mods I have played. So if it isn't one of those 3 things then I'm stumped as to what the problem would be.

I find the Sweboz in especially the early game to be some what lacking in man power/population. So like most campaigns I try to do a balanced build up of economy/population growth and military. Obviously depending on the faction, but Sweboz starts in an economically tough position, so I invest a lot more in to they're economy/population growth in the early game so that when I hit the mid to late game and am confronted with other major powers I can put a primary focus on military.

I agree keeping the balance right is pretty much the way to go about it , but I found capturing the Gawjams first gives an advantage as they are virtual "homelands" and easier to take and build your infrastructure and economy with no public order problems worthy of note. Making non Gawjams vassals(Type 4) with Lesser Kings for the same reasons and also quick availability of troops for garrison(albeit lesser quality) to allow you to move your army on. I found myself in a reasonably good position financially by mid-game with a decent main army, a half stack support army and still recruiting decent units steadily in my designated "military hubs" whilst the other settlements supplied my economy. I would not say it was perfect but it worked for me

War drums are on the Horizon, the battle lines are being drawn. Confrontation between the major powers of the west is inevitable. The eastern kingdoms are in chaos with a new super power emerging. Damn this campaign is getting interesting...
