Welshmen from Gwent have surged forth to avenge the destructive raids (and, unbeknownst to them, campaign of conquest) mounted by the Marcher Earls earlier. They do not penetrate deeply, pillaging only the border counties and stopping short of attacking Gloucester itself, but leave some sharp stings nonetheless. Parties of 50 Welshmen (25 Longbowmen, 25 Hobelars) attack the following provinces, with these results:

Bredwardine/Clifford/Snodhill/Longtown - 1, defenders caught completely by surprise. £240 looted.
Wye/Goodrich/Wilton - 12, three Welshmen are killed, one longbowmen and two hobelars. Surviving defenders report that they're Welshmen. £60 looted.
St Briavels - 3, defenders caught completely by surprise. £150 looted.
Lydney - 9, two Welshmen are killed in a skirmish, both hobelars. £245 looted.
Dean - 8, one Welshman is killed in a skirmish, longbowman. £120 looted.

In Yorkshire, the fishermen and merchants are treated to a familiar site, albeit one that has not recently graced their shores. Canute's heirs had come back with a vengeance, for longships had been spotted along the coast.
Parties of Vikings land up and down the coast of the north, with a small fleet even sailing up the Humber to raid and pillage those lands that lie within old Jorvik's shadow.

Whitby: Fortunately, the men of Whitby are able to retreat with their valuables, taking their women and children to safety. The Vikings simply re-embark and sail away, turning their attention further south.
Scarborough: The same happens at Scarborough.
Bridlington: They are caught completely by surprise. 50% income is lost.
Holderness: Once more caught by surprise. 60% of income is lost.
Beverly: Same happens at Beverly. 190% of income is taken, with the Vikings raging and pillaging up and down the region; they return to their ships laden with gold and slaves.
Howdon: Vikings lose a handful of men. The defenders know the raiders to be sent by King Sweyn himself, for they catch sight of his son Canute leading the raiding party. They loot 130% of the provincial income, but word is sent to Waltheof of the attack.

Bamburgh/Belford: Garrison is taken by complete surprise. Bamburgh's defenders can only watch as a party of Vikings plunder the outlying villages. 110% of provincial income is lost.
Glendale/Wark/Etal/Ford: The same happens here. 90% of provincial income is lost.
Alnwick/Warkworth/Dunstanburgh/Chillingham: The Vikings lose a handful of men, and the provincial lord is informed that the attackers came from Denmark. This is little solace, however, for 190% of the province's income is taken as plunder.
