Great News: Discovered the maousoleum of the emperor Maximian in Milan

Hi everybody! Today I bring you hot news from Italy: it was discovered the remains of the impressive mausoleum of the emperor Maximian in Milan (maybe we could have it as a monument in the mod about Constantine or in a future version of Ruina Romae )

Milan: the excavations for the M4 meet the "mausoleum of the emperor"

During the excavations for the M4, an important archaeological find was found in Milan. At work between the square in front of the church of San Vittore and the homonymous street, from where you access the museum of science and technology, the excavations have encountered a stone wall dating back to Roman times, which is part of the Maximian mausoleum.

Part of the Massimiano mausoleum, dating back to the 4th century, had already come to light: the remains can be visited thanks to the Touring club inside the Basilica of San Vittore al Corpo. According to studies, it was a large octagon with side walls at least seven meters long, inside which there was a Christian necropolis.


The fortified walls at the corners had semicircular towers and an imposing entrance, beyond which the visitor encountered eight semicircular and rectangular niches alternating with a decorated brick pavement, which were the tombs of the emperor's family.


It is a very important discovery, but also an obstacle to excavations for the construction of the new metro line. As reported by La Repubblica, will be the Superintendent of archaeological heritage to say at the top of M4 how to behave, but it is very likely a temporary stop of work.
