    Aguirre and Swiss Units Project


    General Information - Compatibility - Campaign - Language Information
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 

    - fully compatible with the current game version and adapted to the normal vanilla version
    - can be used with other mods which use the vanilla balance
    - the units are playable in the custom battle screen and in the campaign, but it is needed to start a new campaign that the units can be recruited in the campaign
    - it is not compatible in the campaign with other mods which edit the important campaign file "startpos.esf" which is needed to integrate the units into the campaigns


    It is fully compatible with Swiss Halberdier's other mods.

    COMPATIBILITY

    The mod is not compatible with any other mod which changes the starting conditions in the special campaign file startpos.esf. Mostly unit packs, big gameplay mods, overhauls and 12-turns-per-year mods change this file.


    You can only choose one mod which uses this special campaign file while starting a new campagin, as otherwise they will overwrite each other.


    You can subscribe to various mods of course. Normally other modders write it in their thread if they change this special campaign file.


    But just make sure that you only activate our mod and no other mod which changes this special campaign file for your new campaign start and further playing with this save game.




    CUSTOM BATTLE SCREEN


    All units are playable in the custom battle screen while playing with any other mod.




    CAMPAIGN


    You must start a new campaign that the units are recruitable in the game.


    If we creators add new units into this campaign file, then unfortunately a new campaign start is needed that the units are recruitable. You can still play your older campaigns, but only if you start a new campaign our new units are recruitable.


    If CA releases another patch, then we modders must update this file. And that these changes apply to the game, a new campaign start is needed.


    Unfortunately this is a technical issue from the game itself and can't be fixed by us modders.


    This incompatibilty issue happens because the game can only load technically one startpos.esf file into each campaign and it loads this file at the campaign start.


    But for example if we update the mod in terms of small fixes or balancing, then no new campaign start is needed as we don't need to change the file startpos.esf.




    LANGUAGES


    The unit names appear automatically if you play the English version. You can switch your language in the Steam options of Thrones of Britannia.


    All other languages need the related language file here:

    Thanks! I've seen your mods of course, very immersive and impressive stuff! would be great to include those, but would it require a lot of startpos-trixing?

    No startpos Edition necessary. My mods only Change the Model without changing Vanilla Names or any else.

    Yes they are. Made a whole bunch of custom textures. I think I made them from the mail hauberk from Attila.

    Thanks a lot guys for your nice feedback about the preview!

    All praises go to Aguirre as he created these marvellous custom textures and models.

    I'm the technical guy in the team and work mostly on the database, technical side, testing and language managing stuff. But there will be also some few units from me included.

    We aim for a first release after the next official patch. Until now nothing is known yet by CA when this will happen.

    The main reason is that we have enough time to tweak and test all units. Also another reason is the change of the campaign recruitment integration of the units that CA made in TOB.

    This means that with each patch we modders must re-create again a special file called startpos.esf (which is important to set up a campaign) and integrate there the faction-to-unit relations, that the units can be recruited in the campaign. So with each patch we modders must do this again and a new campaign start is needed with each patch that CA's changes do apply and this was the case in all TW games since Empire.

    But now in TOB the campaign recruitment of the units is also affected in this special file and new added units wouldn't be visible in the campaign. So for example if we release the pack soon and then comes also the official patch after some days, then we would have to re-create this special file again and re-start all our campaigns.

    If you're interested you could read my info post for modders about this whole issue here and it is written in the section "Compatibility problems regarding the startpos.esf"

    So it's better to wait until the next official patch and Aguirre and I will have enough time to fully balance, test and finish our mod. Thanks for your patience.

    CA released a new beta patch. As always they will probably change again lots of stuff during the internal beta patch and therefore we aim for a release after the final patch is out. In this case I can also create the important startpos.esf campaign integration file which I mentioned earlier in this thread here.

    So during the next weeks I'm busy tweaking and balancing and our texture master Aguirre is tweaking the visuals before we do the final steps of our first release.

    At the moment we created 19 custom units. Some of them share some factions so the overview below is just a summary.

    Dyflin and Sudreyar: 10 units shared
    West Seaxe and Mierce: 2 units shared and 2 exclusive units for West Seaxe
    Gwined: 2 units
    Circenn: 3 units

    Yes sure please send me a PM with your suggestions and it would be the best if you have historical references/pictures/links and recommended Units Names. As we do now our final steps, we can't promise that they will be in the first release, but we are open-minded for future updates of course.
