Thread: Any non-strategy games with similar historical settings?

Default Any non-strategy games with similar historical settings?

I really enjoy the real-world historical settings of 'Medieval 2: Americas', 'Empire: Total War', and 'Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai'. Unfortunately big strategy games like these just aren't really my thing; I prefer games where you only have to control one character or maybe a small squad of characters. Are there any video games, featuring similar real-world historical settings to the Total Wars I mentioned, which would be in this kind of style? I'm not interested in games that have fantasy or sci-fi elements (e.g. Assassins Creed), so I'm not really sure what else is out there. I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Those are both set in WW2 right? Sorry, maybe I worded my post wrong, I was looking for games with similar settings to the Total Wars I mentioned.

Mount and Blade Warband there are mods that set it in more historical eras such as ancient, historical medieval or 16th century Japan. The expansion Viking Conquest reforged is set in the viking era which was made by the people produced the Brytenwalda mod. Mount and Blade With Fire and Sword is set in the 17th century world of the novel by the same name.

Thank you. I played MB: Fire and Sword back when it came out and I had a good time with it.
I appreciate your suggestion about modding games, but if possible I'd like to find an actual game that I can just pick up and play without having to install a whole bunch of files or edit things in the directory (my computer skills aren't always up to it). In my experience with MB:Warband mods, most of them end up unpolished and unfinished, and can be a bit of a headache to get working. For example I found one set in Japan during the Boshin War (which peaked my interest due to the similarity with 'Shogun 2 FOTS') but it's in pretty rough state with many missing textures and occasional crashes. I'd like to avoid all that if possible.

The precolombian or early colonial Americas are sadly, excrutiatingly misrepresented I'm afraid, especially the way you want it.
