Thread: WORLD CUP: Russia 2018 Commentary Thread

Both teams made quite a few mistakes, but they always lacked the finishing touch.

OT again, and Russians are cheering, as their opposition in quarter-finals will be just as tired as they are. Will we see England-Russia semi-finals?

Yeah. Plus Croatia seems really out of fuel.

We have a saying here that translates as "to escape out of gravedigger's shovel". Quite accurate in this case.

    We have a similar one.
Escape from the Charon's (Reaper) teeth.

    Schmeichel's looking confident.

    Ohh, dear....

    Oh snap....

Tough on Denmark, they were the better team for most of that match. Shoot out was incredible...

Indeed. I also feel bad for the Nords. But surely Croatia has more quality and better chances to face the next one.

Russians play hard and they are tall and strong. But they have no real talent, no special players AFAIK, except a few experienced but old ones. You said it right though, who knows, we had too many surprises already.

Curious to see what he will do in Real.
    How is this even relevant?
Spain seemed ill- prepared for a bunker defense. They have no plan on how to deal with it. They just passed the ball around seemingly confused about what to do.

Anyway, I doubt we will see this ref again. He just made the referee training video for (not) recognizing an obvious go scoring opportunity.
I am afraid were spoiled by yesterday's games.

I suspect tomorrow we will get something in the middle... I hope anyway.

Its Lopetegui football. And Spanish football didn't changed after Lopetegui left. ( couldn't as well....given the lack of time). Personally i doubt him being there would make a big difference.

    .
The ref from the Spain game you mean? Unlikely we will not see Kuipers again, the guy is considered top tier and was pretty much excellent the first two matches he lead. I haven't seen this one as I had to work but I read nothing on him making a massive mistake in the articles I read.

A directionless team I cannot imagine what he could do.

Croatia/Denmark ... There are certain things that FIFA emphasize. That was one of them.

If you watched the qualifiers and the friendlies before the tournament, Spain looked mighty. They slaughtered Argentina 6-1. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

(They did however draw 3-3 against Russia a few months ago).

I'm watching Brazil-Mexico just to have some fun with Neymar. So much talent wasted. He is so pretentious and phony.

    PS
Faking injury should be punished with red.

I hope they lose to Belgium in the next round.
